Wrong size components for PPA v2
Thanks for the reply. Why would you recommend bigger caps? Which resistor would you choose for R21, R22, R32, and R32: RN55D2200FB14 or RN55C2200BRE6?- jbd

Wrong size components for PPA v2
Hello, I just started putting my PPA v2 amplifier together, and I apparently overlooked the dimensions of a few components. I'm wondering if just bending the leads to make them fit will be a bad idea. For R21, R22, R32, and R32, I ordered Mouser part 282-220. These resistors are too big...- jbd

DIY DAC with optical input, other than Mini TDA1543?
Hi, I'm looking for a DIY DAC that has an optical input. From the following discussion: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/diy...-input-187604/ ...it looks like the HiFidiy Mini TDA1543 DAC is an option, but it apparently has some major limitations, being a NOS DAC...- jbd

If you could keep only one AKG headphone, which one would it be?
k501! The k{6,7}01 sounded the same to me, and neither one had a very good midrange. k271s are the best closed headphone I've heard.- jbd

Those of you with headphones and speakers
I use the cheap onboard sound card for speakers and the chaintech av710 for my headphones. Still trying to figure out how to have them both going at the same time though.- jbd

You really hear that much of a difference? I started going back to high bitrate mp3s a while ago because I couldn't hear much of an improvement. Maybe I'll try flac again.- jbd

What headphones offer the best midrange?
The k501s have one of the best midranges of all the dynamic headphones I heard at headfest '07.- jbd

My search for a low-noise, hi-res DAC
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably try adding pot before anything else.- jbd

My search for a low-noise, hi-res DAC
The first high quality DAC I had was the Chaintech AV710's Wolfson DAC. I've been really happy with how low-noise/high-res it was, until I made a pot-less cmoy that really brought out the noise with low-impedence headphones. I thought the noise was being caused by the cmoy's lack of a pot and...- jbd

After nearly 3 years, it's still my favourite: AKG K271 Studio

cmoy clipping at medium volume
I just built and tested my first cmoy using tutorial from tangentsoft.net with all the recommended components. When I tested it with an ipod and the KSC-75s, the sound is a bit noisy and clips at medium volumes. Any idea why? Should I go ahead and add the R5 resistors? Here are pics of the...- jbd
