Roll Call for Team AKG
Just picked up a pair of K240 Studios to complement my beloved Ultrasone HFI-780. Everything I read about how AKGs are excellent at portraying mids was spot on when I got to listen to these headphones after 24 hours of burn in. I gotta say that after years of convincing myself that I wouldn't...- jaykay

Headphones for college lifestyle
I'm not sure how the pricing of this headphone is in the UK, but the Ultrasone DJ1 seems like it would meet pretty much all of the criteria you have set forth. It currently is going for ~$120 on amazon.com in the US. Ultrasones are pretty darn durable in my opinion, and look pretty modern and...- jaykay

Ultrasone Fan Club! (Roll Call)
Quote: I'm not sure how the size/width of the DJ1 Pro headband compares to the pro900 or hfi-780, but putting an hd650 pad on my hfi-780 did wonders for comfort. The stock headband pad for my hfi-780 often put so much pressure on the top of my head that it felt like a wooden pole was...- jaykay

Longest Lifespan of an IEM You Own?
My Westone 3's get daily use and have been going strong since November of 2008 I don't have any secrets to prolong the life of iems...I just don't wrap them around my phone or mp3 player. I loosely wrap them around my fingers and toss them in the soft zipper pouch that they came with. As...- jaykay

Comfort mod: HD650 headband padding on the Pro 900
Just wanted to update and say that I did perform this mod last week for my hfi-780. Don't have a camera for pictures, but I used the same method as Sorensiim. This mod completely fixes the only issue I had with my hfi-780 -- the top headband that felt like a knife cutting through my skull after...- jaykay

Back on the market for a USB DAC/amp
Admittedly, I've been pretty inactive on this forum for the past 2 years, but I spotted an iBasso D10 going for ~$170 not too long ago in the for sale section. I believe Larry has those rated pretty high on his big review of portable dac/amps. I'd also take a look into a meier 2move/3move in the...- jaykay

How much are your "perfect" headphones?
My ears just love my hfi-780's. They really are the perfect headphones for me. Likewise, my Westone 3's are my favorite iem's. No other headphones/earphones have gotten any significant ear time for the past 1 year (hfi 780) and 3 years (W3). These two really take the cake for me.- jaykay

Why did you choose your username?
I've always been called James by most of my friends and Khoi (my Vietnamese name) by most of my family and relatives. Many years ago, I used to play counterstrike, and had friends and relatives that I played with who called me both of the names. jaykay essentially is my first two initials...and...- jaykay

Headphones you regretted buying the most
I tried really hard to like my pair of Denon AH-D1000s, but ultimately found that the sound signature was just too lifeless to me. It really made me regret dumping my es7's for them. But I ended up picking up a set of AH-D2000s, which I enjoyed. But once again, I kept longing the "fun" signature...- jaykay

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
A friend in my study group gave my hfi-780's a try and kept raving about how clear the sound was and how tight the bass was. I was pleasantly surprised when he criticized beats studios for being too congested and not displaying much other than bass. He might be picking up a set of dj1's or...- jaykay

What headphones are you currently rocking?
Quote: Yep, you nailed it lol. I listen to a large variety of music pretty evenly throughout my playlist. electronica/rock/accoustic/hip hop/pop/stuff like Apocalypica and Bond that I don't know how to categorize. My hfi-780's and westone 3's just plain flourish with my music selection.- jaykay
