Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

A change of component can often imbalance a system. I suspect the sound quality problems you are having with optical are simply that the rest of the system has been assembled to soften the problems you've heard with electrical connections. It could be the XLR or speaker cables that are actually...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

A phone dB meter can easily be wrong by 20 or 30dB. Different apps on your phone will produce different readings. Additionally, the phone likely hard-clips the SPL that can be measured. My current phone hard limits at about 72dB according to one app. I have a microphone I use with REW (Umik...

    Watts Up...?

I've been thinking about the signal produced by the forward path of Davina. In theory it's N-bit delta, where the coding represents positive, negative and 0 delta values. For the pulse array to work you feed it with a single-ended coding, e.g. in DAVE you use a coding for values 0 to 20 to feed...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

If you have a spare shelf on your "brawn" rack, put the M scaler there, preferably near the floor. Worst case, put it on the floor under the brawn rack. M Scaler generates lots of RF noise and your 300 head unit (guess) being close to it won't like that noise, I'm afraid. Also, being a Naim...

Honestly, that room looks way too cluttered for serious speaker enjoyment. Glass and bare walls sound basically identical. In general the wall behind speakers spoils the sound much more than walls to either side. A good setup for speakers either side of the fireplace in this room puts a...

Did this problem "develop" or was it there from day 1?

    Watts Up...?

In 2013, I think, there was this: https://chordelectronics.co.uk/product/dsx1000 which had a built-in DAC (QBD76). It's really a network player, not a streamer in the sense that we now think of streamers. It will play a wide variety of file types that are stored on the network. But yeah, a...

    Chord Mojo 2: Speculation Thread

I'm expecting Mojo 2 to feature an "Automatic WTA 2 Boost" feature. When Mojo 2 is fed by M Scaler, the taps that are used for WTA 1 become redundant. Rather than wasting those taps, they can be configured to work as WTA 2 taps.. This will make M Scaler + Mojo 2 sound better than M Scaler + Hugo 2.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

I'd ditch DAVE + Etude without even listening to it if there was a 50W per channel TT3 with speaker sockets. On the basis that it exceeded DAVE's transparency. That, in my opinion, is why DAVE 2 is so far off (and may never be a thing). A new version of TT could easily surpass it. Also a...

12AWG or fatter is preferred for decent bass power/control. But yes, connecting them to TT2 is going to be tricky. https://electricalandelectronicsengineering.com/awg-to-mm2-reference-table/ I ran 91dB/W/m speakers from DAVE in a 4.1x3.7m room and that was LOUD. Rated at 6 ohm with a 4 ohm...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I've talked about an increased scaling for WTA 1, e.g. to 32FS or 256FS before, because it seems like it would be better. It is definitely a mathematically valid approach. But it is not required in order to get more than 1 million taps. I'm sure Rob would like to have an FPGA that could do 1...
