Sharing my friend's poor experience with Woo Audio's customer service
From what I can gather, WooAudio have been thoroughly inconsistent in their approach to dealing with the issue, backtracking, changing the story, making false promises, etc. Not a great look for a company charging up to tens of thousands for its products. It'll be interesting to see how this is...- Hobgoblinpie

Maybe they will sell a backplate that converts them from 'on-ear' headphones to 'over-ear'.- Hobgoblinpie

Hifiman Edition S - NEW Closed Portable
Yeah sorry, I wasn't trying to aim my displeasure at you. Given exactly what you've said, they should market it as an 'Ultraportable' Over-Ear set, along with the likes of the Sennheiser momentum over-ears etc. They may not have the style of the momentums, but they're not bad-looking. Plus...- Hobgoblinpie

Hifiman Edition S - NEW Closed Portable
Yeah, but 'on-ear' describes a property of the headphones, a property that these headphones don't have except to those with extremely large ears. If we're going down this road, they might as well just market them as planars and then say it's just a marketing term. The folding portion of the...- Hobgoblinpie

Hifiman Edition S - NEW Closed Portable
Have the HIFIMAN team rethought the idea of marketing these headphones properly as 'Over-ear' and not 'On-ear'? It's pretty misleading for the vast majority of people, and many people overlook them because of the fact that they are marketed as on-ear headphones. Which is a shame, because...- Hobgoblinpie

Hifiman Edition S - NEW Closed Portable
The Hifiman Edition S are very comfort able. Although they're really portable, they are definitely over-ear, which makes them much more comfortable than a lot of other portable cans. They fold down pretty nicely too, and the choice between open and closed is very nice, making them very...- Hobgoblinpie

Hifiman Edition S - NEW Closed Portable
Three things for context: 1. I'm comparing to the original price (and excluding other options) 2. I live in the UK where Black Friday isn't really a thing (it exists, but we don't get deals anywhere near as good as you do in America) 3. The Edition S exists in a kind of niche. It's both closed...- Hobgoblinpie

I only have three other cans, Sennheiser momentum (on-ear, first gen), AKG K550 and HE-400. The momentums have more bass but they're aimed at that, but it's not tight and punchy. It's not too boomy either, but it definitely isn't as tight. The K550s have no bass at all, and the HE-400 has a bit...- Hobgoblinpie

They're probably a bit lacking for a basshead or someone accustomed to Beats, but by my standard (good amount, punchy and not flabby/boomy) they're amazing.- Hobgoblinpie

I found the clamping force a bit much once I first got them, but they've loosened up over time. I find them really comfortable compared to some other headphones I've worn.- Hobgoblinpie

Hifiman Edition S - NEW Closed Portable
A few people in this thread have tried contacting Hifiman to correct them about the marketing, but they do not want to change it. Despite having multiple people interested in this thread only to not buy them because they didn't want on-ear headphones. I mean, these things aren't huge, but...- Hobgoblinpie

Zeos just made his HIfiman Edition S review public and gives a pretty glowing recommendation for use as a portable set of headphones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0NqlVHoJFo- Hobgoblinpie
