What headphones to buy as a worthy upgrade over the HFI-780s?

Quote: That's a hot button issue and taking a stance on either side is going to draw some criticism, but let's just say that 320kbps mp3s are quite good. Many will argue that they can't tell the difference between 320s and FLAC (I'm among that crowd with most recordings), but others will...

    Best Western Movies

Not exactly your traditional "shoot 'em up" western, but I recently saw Open Range and loved it.

help with old cd player: keeper or yardsale junk?

Quote: It of course has only analog out, hence my initial post. Honestly I'm not sure when spdif starting becoming common but I've never seen it on anything this old.

    Minimum For Sale posting requirements

I guess I should preface this by saying that I've done 3 successful transactions before reaching 20 posts (though I'm still trying to get feedback from some) . Knowledge speaks but wisdom listens...you can read and learn without ever posting or even joining.   As for being a member for x...

    new to the DAC scene

Pretty good list, but a couple of things pop out at me: the Audio GD compass is both an amp and and a DAC....but more importantly it has now been replaced by the audio gd FUN. The only way you will find a compass is used. A DAC is probably going to be a nice improvement over the stock macbook...

Quote: I own a house but no garage...thanks I guess! I hooked the cd player up to my audio gd fun and it sounds pretty damn good, but I dont have anything to a/b it with at the moment.

help with old cd player: keeper or yardsale junk?

Please be gentle, I'm a noob with this sort of thing!   Anyways, I was doing some spring cleaning today and came across some old audio equipment my parents inherited from my grandfather. The stuff has been sitting in a closet for years, but he had a reputation for having expensive taste...

When was the last time you bought a CD?

I'm an odd one I guess, because I still buy CDs on an almost weekly basis. I try to get them secondhand when I can (either from private sales or used from Amazon) but I still buy CDs because I'm a bit of a perfectionist...I can't stand having a music library of stuff ripped at varying bitrates...

First Post, I like headphones, q's about hd600, Grado 325i, amps, and general thoughts!

yeah...that doesn't really make sense. Grado's are notoriously easy to drive, and most of the prestige series don't even need an amp (though it helps). Sennheisers should be much more difficult to drive across the board...I wonder if something is wrong with your 325s? There is no reason you...

    X-CAN V8P's DAC (vs X-Fi) setup advice

Yeah you want to use the x-fi over using USB into the X-can. It should not only be better quality, but you get stuff like EAX as well.   I'm confused as to how you would hook the x-fi to the x-can though. X-can only supports analog inputs (besides usb), and in your post you said "to the amp...

Auzentech X-fi Bravura 7.1 Sneak Peek

ok so I'm interested in trying out some different opamps for the can output, but I know nothing about what kind of adapters I would need etc. Would I need an adapter for a OPA2111AM? I've also used opa627 in another device and really enjoyed it, but I have no idea which specific model or the...

Live Music Junkie Needs Headphone Advice:

I'm a noob but it seems to me that you would want to find a setup that has great synergy - more clarity isn't going to help if the recording quality isn't amazing. Finding a different amp that has great synergy with your current phones and using the nuforce as a DAC might be an option, or maybe...

Writing a movie script, any advice how to pitch my idea for a movie.

Well...I've got more experience with the music industry than film, but I did take plenty of classes on this kind of stuff in college and I've got a few powerful connections in the film industry.   I think it's pretty similar to getting a band signed - you really just have to know somebody...
