Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Congrats on the Val 2! I love mine. I'd recommend getting a set of socket savers to bring the tubes up out of their caves. MUCH easier to grab onto to roll and helps move some of the heat out of the chassis.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

@blackdragon87 just as an FYI, I'm assuming you're running Win10 as opposed to my Win7. I've played with the various bit depths and other settings in the Foobar WASAPI entries and crashed the playback too many times to mention, so I got my setup running through a fair amount of experimentation...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ever try to work with a machine shop to get something made when it's drawn in fractional inches? Ain't gonna happen.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

While it's hard for me to articulate how bad I think a lot of CDs made today sound, I can say that pretty much every single CD I purchased between '83 and the mid-90's sound amazing compared to the new ones. Yeah, vastly different genres, artists, etc., but I've been disappointed by what I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Pretty! I made one of these (not as big and pretty though) in 9th grade woodshop back in '79. Still gets used every day!

SPL Phonitor X / Phonitor E impressions and Discussion thread

@mprism854 I would guess that with it being a solid state amp, you probably wouldn't see much improvement if it were left on. The reason I was asking was with regard to the DAC and over in the Schiit thread, they talk about hearing "significant" improvement after their DACs have been on for a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks all for the info. With this being my initial foray into this class of headphones, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised things don't behave as I would've expected. My Phonitor is trekking its way across the country and should be in my hot, ape-like hands on Thursday. Yesterday I...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

Pretty! Unfortunately it looks like it would take up a lot more real estate than I have available and doesn't have VU meters (one of the flashing lights that intrigued about the Phonitor). The Phonitor will sit nicely under my Bifrost and Valhalla. Sound update - currently listening to some...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

Well, considering the Valhalla 2 is what I currently have available, I had to use it because there was NO WAY I'd let these hp's sit a week without being touched! :) I do have a full sized speaker amp I will be trying out this weekend. Last night as I was running through my Lorenna McKennitt...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

But people like blathering about your blathering! And it looks like they plugged the interwebz back in or added another squirrel to the cage.

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

After seeing Excalibur when it originally came out, I had to get that on CD. Was my first classical CD I ever purchased. Classical music - yes. Opera - um, no.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Meh, not really. I found a template through an online search of MickeySoft's holdings but did tweak it a bit for additional fields. I once had the grand idea to include the cover art but then my currently 35 MB file would most assuredly balloon by several orders of magnitude. So no. It (the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

While I do use Discogs, I don't do this. I have a pretty extensive database built up and it has saved me from buying duplicates of some things, but until lately I could only access it at home. Because of this, it couldn't stop me from buying dupes of things when I saw what I thought were great...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Many years ago I developed an Access database that has survived many incarnations of Windoze and computers. It contains all of my CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, and LPs that have been purchased fairly recently. It was only last year that I finished adding all of my CDs. It contains all of the standard...
