The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones

Thanks for the shoutout @LXMc and I appreciate your kind words. The HA-2A looks like a very interesting product. It's very attractive with updated design language, the only issue I forsee with it is that it's price isn't that different from the HA-3A (I'm not sure who is in the market for a...

    Cayin HA-3A, a Compact 6V6s Transformer-coupled Tube Amplifier

I've replaced my 25AX4GT and noticed extremely minimal audio impact. The NOS versions are MUCH prettier though... VERY bright getters.

Glad you got one! I'm extremely jealous I paid so much more, but that's the nature of things.

Update 3: Living with the Cayin HA-3A, & 12AX7 Experimenting and some new 6SN7's for the HP8 Mk.II I've been using the HA-3A as my daily driver for a few weeks and I want to note how impressive it is that this thing just always sounds good with some relatively inexpensive tubes. I'm surprised...

I have successfully used a ZMF Atrium and a Focal Clear (baby Utopia) as my everyday-driver. It's more a matter of preference as they sound quite different.

Yup. They're Telefunken branded Tungsrams. Same tube though. The two 6v6 tubes are also both Marconi 6v6Gs. One is just branded General Electric.

Hah thanks man! For what it's worth I'm using a Modi 3 as my DAC, my amps are hooked up to a very non-optimal power bar and there's lots of potential for noise where my table is (WiFi, phone signals, lots of electronics in this corner) and as I said, changing out the tubes mostly resulted is...

I said I would update the thread with some tube roll impressions to go along with my brief review of both the Cayin HA-3A and the Icon Audio HP8 Mk.II Signature Edition. I purchased a significant collection of tubes locally, all NOS. I've spent about 2 days getting acquainted with what each tube...

Turns out VNM also had NOS NIB Telefunken (tungsram) E80CC's which saved me $80 USD and sound near the same, so I got those instead and used the 80 to pick up Caldera thick pads. Either way, Ill update my post with tube roll impressions.

You can definitely hear the point to point wiring. As I said in my write up the amp is quiet and the FR is a chasm. There's no doubt it was made expertly and outperforms it's price point for sure. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to know what tubes you've tried and which ones you liked in...

Seems about right, yea. I found a tube store that does a good job making content about the tubes they sell (ValvesnMore) which is near me in Ontario Canada. Comparing their prices, they seem very reasonable. Reading through the HA-3A thread, Cayin seems to believe you'll get greater changes in...

You may not remember, but you were the individual that convinced me to buy the HP8. A unit went up for sale on head-fi classified's a town over from my location during our DM'ing and I scooped it up. Glad I got the opportunity to own this excellent product. I'm very excited to start tube...

Lol! You won't be disappointed with the HP8. The only concern I had was it only offers SE when I made investments in moving all my cables over to balanced so adapters are necessary, and good 6SN7 NOS tubes are hilariously expensive.
