Powering Cans Through a Gaming PC: An Overclockers Journey
When Intel made the sandy bridge chips, they integrated the clock generator into the CPU. The base clock of the CPU effects the clock speed of the PCI bus and PCI-e bus too. Previously there have been external clock generators. Generally as you increased the FSB/ HTT whatever it is...- Gilly

SB X-Fi vs. 2012?
The onboard audio on my P8Z68-V Pro picks up interference during high 3D load and high CPU load (video encoding, TF2 to name but 2 occasions), I therefore would say if you have a silent X-fi card you may find it better than a potential noisy onboard card. For reference I have a 2600K CPU...- Gilly

Foobar, Wasapi, temporary silence?
Only silence I get is a slight pause when un-pausing a song that I have paused, I just presumed that it is buffering the first 800ms or so. Sorry I can't be of more assistance!- Gilly

Titanium vs DX vs DG (New soundcard)
So based on what you believe to be true, if you are going to use an external DAC then the Titanium is a better bet, but for the actual card itself the DG is a better buy? Many thanks! Quote:- Gilly

Titanium vs DX vs DG (New soundcard)
With the DG, if you used the optical output to run a DAC then an amplifier, would you get any of the surround DSP effects like you would the X-Fi Titanium? I am currently in the same boat as the OP, I have HD595's though, and would like a solution that I can upgrade to later, which would be a...- Gilly

next comes the obvious, subjective question... how much of an improvement does using filtered IEC inlets make? :)- Gilly

Sound Blaster Xtrememusic vs ATI 5870 HDMI for 5.1 Computer
I guess the move to more cross platform development lends itself to software audio. I don't think I have a single game installed that uses OpenAL actually, all I am playing at the moment is GTA4, Guild Wars (to help the GF) and Team Fortress 2. I don't think I would lose anything by using...- Gilly

Sound Blaster Xtrememusic vs ATI 5870 HDMI for 5.1 Computer
Just a related question to this though... "But you'll be missing out on the eax effects if your have games that use them." Gaming on Vista/ W7 doesn't allow EAX to work because of the new audio stack, so is there any benefit it all from using a soundcard (bar recording, which clearly...- Gilly

Hotrodding the X-Fi: A Layman's Guide (No 56k)
How much DC offset is there with no caps in place btw? And it is certainly very strange that it sounds so poor in comparison- Gilly

y1 gamma-1 DAC
With good quality cable, I can't see 12ft being a problem. Could you use Coaxial cable, maybe DIY it? I'm going to probibly use CT100 grade (much better than RG69 for TV/ Satellite signals) co-ax, and give it a try.- Gilly
