    Hi-Fi in New Jersey

I've had a great time at Audio Nexus is Summit. The service I"ve received from them is better than any other audio shop I've ever been in. Both Ken and Gerry are helpful and friendly. You can check their website www.audionexus.com for directions. They are having a sale through Dec. 20. Eric

New York City area hi-fi stores?

It isn't actually in NYC, but I've been very happy with Audio Nexus in Summit NJ. You can check out their website at www.audionexus.com. The website also has lectures by some high end manufacturers talking about their products and design philosophies (Ray Kimber, Audio Physic, Meadowlark Audio...

    shopping in manhattan

Stereo Exchange on Broadway at Houston had both the grado and creek headphone amplifiers the last time I was there. Harvery also carries both, but I don't think they have them on hand to demo. I'm not sure how pleasant an experience you'll have at either place, if that matters to you.

Thanks to FCJ my problem is solved.

    questions for scd-ce775 owners

Hello, While at Best Buy yesterday I noticed a scd-ce775 on the clearance rack. To make a long story short, I bought it ($149 with a four year service contract, a new universal remote (since they didn't have the original), and the 4 sacds that were in the player). They didn't have the manual...

What music do you play for your children?

My son just turned 3 and he absolutely loves the beach boys. He loves to sing along and tell me what instruments are being played. He prefers Beach Boy records up through Pet Sounds. Lately he has only wanted "fast songs with drums". Other songs come and go, but the beach boys are always his...

    The Busy Signals

The Busy Signals have a nice little song, "headphone world", that might be of interest--can you resist a song with the refrain "you look so cute with your cans on"? Until Monday you can hear it by going to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/blueroom and listening to last week's show. Of course, you'd...

    a question for netMD users

Hi, I've looked around for the following information, but I've found conflicting reports. Here goes: I know you can't upload to the computer, but can you title tracks from your computer if they are on the minidisc but not the computer (I record a lot of LPs to minidisc and it would be nice...

    AKG K-501 and Amp combo

Much like legoman I use a Little with the 501s and am quite happy. I almost never get past 9 o'clock on the volume, and I think 10 o'clcok is as far as I've ever had it. I second legoman's suggestion to try the Little (if you're happy with it you'll have saved quite a few bucks). I've been...

    stanton turntables?

Does anybody use and/or know anything about Stanton turntables? They are mainly DJ turntables, I guess, but I'm intrigued by the str8-80 since it is cheap and has a digital output. Thanks.

    OT: Books to read?

It would be hard to go wrong with the following authors. I've mentioned some titles where I thought it would help. fiction: Iain Pears, "An Instance of the Fingerpost" any of Umberto Eco's novels John Crowley, "Little, Big" any Gene Wolfe, esp. the four books comprising the Book of the...

    Halloween Playlist

I don't disagree with KR...'s observation that "Diamanda Galas is a bit much for most people ", but this was for a Halloween playlist. I happen to like those albums very much, but they aren't everyday music. Also, I might just have fond memories attached to them. Advice for all you kids out...

    Looking For Haunting Music

    1. Ligeti's "Requiem" 2. Diamanda Galas's "The Divine Pit" and "Saint of the Pit" 3. early Nurse with Wound, like, "Chance Meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella" (actually, I'm not sure it counts as haunting, but it is nicely strange) 4. Sleep Chamber, "Circle...

    Halloween Playlist

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Diamanda Galas's "The Divine Pit" and "Saint of the Pit". While they are part of a three part work dealing with AIDS, they are also very creepy. I think there is also a Current 93 record (maybe it was "Current 93 presents . . .") that was, according to the liner...
