    Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings

Couldn't agree with more with Lex, the Barshai 5th is truly great, you'll be hard pressed to find a more intense, fresh and spontaneous Mahler recording. Probably due to the fact that the orchestra consisted of young music students rather than seasoned professionals playing the piece for the...

    Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings

True, Karajan's sixth would have deserved a place on the DG set, as would Bernstein's. Come to think of it, I would personally perhaps have rearranged symphonies 5-7 of the DG set like this:   5th: Sinopoli 6th: Bernstein 7th: Abbado

Whoa, that DG set certainly is rock solid! Does anyone know which of the two Karajan/Berlin 9ths DG picked, the live or the studio one?

Thanks, mbhaub for the heads up on the EMI box and for your views on the contents. I'm sure there is an interest in this thread although things have been quiet lately. I for my part have been lurking around with interest every time this thread is bumped.   There are some very good choices in...

Classical recommendations for metalheads - what are the most bombastic, dramatic, and heart-pounding pieces you know?

Many excellent recommendations above. An easy way to sample some of the most bombastic moments of classical music would be a collection by EMI called "Heavy Classix". Amazon.com: Heavy Classix: Hector Berlioz, Alexander Borodin, Emmanuel Chabrier, Gustav Holst, Aram Khachaturian, Gustav...

    beyerdynamic DT 880 - 32 OHM

I got the DT-880 32 ohm version some years ago, thinking that a large part of their use would be from portable and other low-powered sources. Having thereafter walked down the amp path - both stationary and portable - I am starting to regret I did not get the 250 or even the 600 ohm version...

Are these identical with the P/S save for their impendance?

    Etymotic replacement cord options?

Any who's got the replacement cable from AW and has impressions to share? This looks like an interesting alternative to the APS cable, even if it did nothing more than removed the pigtail issue and reduced microphonics (to me, the two major downsides of the ER4).

    ER4S VS ER4P

Has anyone tried that 18 dollar eBay P-S adapter, would it be a viable alternative to the original Etymotic adapter? It's dirt cheap and you would think adding 75 ohms of impendance would not be rocket science...

    Brahms Symphonies and Concerti

Heads up, Brahms lovers! Emi is issuing a live set of all four symphonies by Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic on September 7. The marketing guys at Emi have even put up a dedicated minisite (Simon Rattle | Complete symphonies of Johannes Brahms) with audio clips and a quite interesting...

Used CDs - Question to EU residents

I buy quite a lot of used CD's through the Amazon.co.uk. marketplace. In order to avoid hassle with customs that can arise if buying from the US (I live in Finland)), I usually prefer to buy from marketplace sellers in the UK or other EU countries. Many marketplace sellers state "international...
