Exclusive newcomer from Ultrasone"!?
Just double checked ... it's 2690 euros *gulp* direct from Ultrasone. I'm hoping for a review - and a better price - from Jan Meier.- El Scorcho

Ultrasone Edition 7
I just got a price quote from Ultrasone: 2690 euros (no mention of shipping). Pics will be provided soon on the website. I seriously hope Jan will post a review soon, as I don't think I'll ever get a chance to audition the thing here.- El Scorcho

Philips HP890
Great headphone for the price. Some have complained about the 'plasticky' build and some find the velour pads a bit scratchy, but they've worked out pretty good for me for close to a year now. Dropped them hard twice, but still in perfect working order.- El Scorcho

Ultrasone Hfi-650
Yep, I was pretty skeptical at first - never heard of Ultrasones - but the HFI-650 is now one of my most frequently used headphones. The price for this baby is pretty sweet at www.auralfocus.com ... not too sure about the smell though.- El Scorcho

Ultrasone HFI-650DE completely IMPRACTICAL for portable use!
Quote: Originally posted by bangraman I wrap long coiled cords around my waist... No need to hold in my gut then Seriously though, I don't remember it being THAT long (standard 650 is what I tried briefly at a meet). Ah, sorry I just read the thread, it's the DE version. Is that for...- El Scorcho

To be Total Airhead, or not to be Total Airhead....that is the question...
What's even funnier is that a lot of people actually think the dealer is totally unbiased. Check this out for an 'unbiased' view: "[The] long term durability of the Porta Corda is much better because it does not use SMD parts like the Total Airhead does. In fact the Porta Corda uses much...- El Scorcho

good cans for Jazz, unamped, closed?
Agree with both suedama and jazzchef. The HFI650 is a great all rounder (PCs, movies, music) and possibly the best closed headphone available. Try www.auralfocus.com for a good price (slightly better than meier-audio).- El Scorcho

To: HFI-650 users w/ straight cable
Hmm, I didn't know HFI-650 has a coiled wire variant... Anyway, the "off-center" sound you're talking about may have something to do with the decentralized placement of the driver. Also, I've had more or less the same experience as miroslav: I tend to perceive more presence on the R...- El Scorcho

Short Review: Ultrasone HFI-650 DVD Edition
John: Yes, if you don't mind the long cord and 1/4" jack (you'll probably have to use the 1/8" adaptor that's supplied with the can). Also, the HFI-650 weighs in at 350 grams, so it's might be a little heavy for portable use. The pleather pads also encourage perspiration a bit more than velvet...- El Scorcho

Short Review: Ultrasone HFI-650 DVD Edition
My Ultrasone HFI-650 DVD Edition (DE) came this Friday, and I just finished running it in. The very first time I put it on, I found the press release to be very true: this thing really packs in more where the lower frequencies are concerned, but I found it too boomy for comfort. 24 hours...- El Scorcho

HP890s - remove the foam?
I removed the foam that covers the grilles and the cloth covering the drivers, but there doesn't seem to be any discernible difference (at least to my ears). I haven't tried removing the paper covering the drivers 'cause I'm not so sure whether it'll make a difference. Please do let us...- El Scorcho

shorter headphone cords
I use my ER-4P with a Sony MZR-700. A shorter cord + elimination of cord noise would be great, as I would like to place the MD player in my shirt/jacket pocket and have the cord at an appropriate length. I second the request by barnaby1 for 'uneven length' cables that go round the back of the...- El Scorcho

Home Studio Headphones?
You might wanna try the Ultrasone HFI650 for a good closed monitor that doesn't murder your wallet. Do a search for Ultrasone to see reviews/opinions and check the 'gear for sale' board for bargains. Happy listening.- El Scorcho
