    [unboxing] KEF LS50 Wireless

Figured out my network issue. My home domain is sub.domain.com.   The app can't find the speaker unless the DNS search domain is blank or just domain.com. To resolve it on iOS I had to go to Settings, WiFi, the connected network, then change my Search Domain to just domain.com. I've notified...

    Sony MDR-1000X

Anyone had ear piercing static coming out of these headphones?   Had this happen the other day. They were connected to my Macbook Pro (using aptX). No audio playing and (thankfully) lying on the desk. A continuous ear splitting screech of static came out of them loud enough to have everyone in...

    [unboxing] KEF LS50 Wireless

Just picked up a pair. Previously had a Devialet 120 + KEF Reference 1 setup so basically a big brother to the LS50.   The LS50W comes close but it's definitely no cigar as far as fidelity goes.   It's also shy of a pair of Devialet Phantoms but considering the aforementioned setups cost...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

I know we all have different tastes, but I can't agree that they 'sound like ass'. When correctly placed (like any loudspeaker) they sound very good indeed. I picked up a pair during the 45 day trial and they compared very favourably to my KEF Reference/Bryston setup.

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones

Thanks, seen two of those :)   It's actually super frustrating buying Bryston gear in the UK. It's pretty much 1:1 for £ vs $ pricing. The guy at Bryston's UK distributor who does the cost conversion must have the easiest job in the world...

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones

Heheh, amen.   The kind folks at Schiit EU loaned me a Mjolnir 2 + Gumby.   I warmed the Schiit stack up for 8+ hours. I then volume levelled the MJ and my Yamaha speaker amp so that their volumes were equal. In comparing the two the Yamaha has it by a hair - a little easier to listen to...

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones

Have approximately $1500 to spend on amplification for the HE-6. Currently using an old Yamaha DSP-A2070 receiver from the 90s which puts 80W into 8-ohms.   It does the job but wondering if a Mjolnir 2 or Krell KAV-400XI would be better?   Found a used Krell for £1200 boxed with remote etc...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Heheh, yeah I read Jason's comments on the subject of speakers - pretty much 'no, never'. Can't even imagine the difficulty of building speakers in Jason's speaker days - expensive modelling software to design them (or tonnes of trial and error), dusty MDF everywhere to build them, fiddly and...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Active speakers, that's what I wanna see from Schiit. Something like KEF's LS50 but with built in amp and DAC. Blow the doors off every overpriced high end speaker out there and cater to the small apartment crowd (with current property prices that'd be pretty much every millennial living in a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm not an electrical engineer but I really doubt it gives Yggy level performance judging by the internals:   Here's the Schiit Bifrost by way of comparison:   A lot of overpriced kit out there, if you're looking for a well engineered product which is well priced Bryston are usually a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Excellent post as always Jason, it reminds me me of Stephen Mejias' column in Stereophile April 2012. Where he questions the whole point behind CES, super expensive systems and whether there's a better way than the current arms race of boosting specs and turning audio into jewellery.   I think...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

This sounds ridiculously likely - but Jason did state somewhere that designing speakers is a tricky, bulky business. Hmm, maybe a cool little bluetooth speaker...

    HiFiMan HE-6 Fit and Finish

I used the demo pair with the Schiit Lyr and I found them fan-frakingtastic!   My initial impression was actually underwhelmed, but after comparing them to my DT770 Pros and listening to them with a range of music I was left astounded as to how much better modern day recordings sound. The...
