    JVC HA-FD01 Class S Solidege

Ok, just a quick update about my search to find an open-back equivalent to the JVCs: I've been listening to the Focal Elex for a couple days, and comparing it to my modded FD01's. The Focals sound great, but I think I still prefer the FD01's. When listening to the Focals, on tracks I'm very...

    Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7b Impressions & Discussion Thread

Hi @Oluvs Buddy , I haven't done it for headphones, but I've used the Dayton Audio iMM-6, to measure my IEMs directly from my phone. I cut a short piece of aquarium filter tubing, to create the chamber between the mic and the IEM, and used (if I recall correctly) the RTA app from the Google Play...

Thanks for the tip. I see the Elex is $599 new on Drop. Thanks for the suggestion. [Edit: I just bought the Elex on Drop. The cable looks crappy, but that's easily remedied. Looking forward to hearing how these compare to the JVCs.]

    Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7b Impressions & Discussion Thread

One of the big downsides of listening to music on YouTube is the highly compressed audio (even when upping the video quality to 720p or more). It's great for a lot of things, but critical listening isn't one of them. Too much audio information, within the human hearing range, is thrown out...

    Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7b Impressions & Discussion Thread

@zigaliro , so sorry to hear about your "meh" experience with the 7b! I haven't heard the Hyperx, but a quick check on rtings.com shows a frequency graph with a large dip at 4 kHz. I would imagine this lack of energy in the lower-treble region, would be most noticeable as a lack of overall...

More affordable alternative to the Grado PS2000e.

Hi folks. Last year, I hosted a Head-Fi get-together, where I tried out the Grado PS2Ke headphones. They reminded me of my modded JVC FD01 IEMs. They both sound neutral but detailed, which I think is the sound I prefer. That being said, I can't possibly drop $2,600 on a pair of cans; it's just...

Also, if you swap the left and right sides of the cable, you still have no sound, yes? Have you tried cleaning the IEM's connection with maybe a cotton swab and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol? Did you possibly get it wet? Is there are lot of humidity where you live? Maybe it's a bad connection...

Low end. Cheap. Generic. Otherwise bang for buck cable thread!

Hi @hakuzen. Thanks for the help and for the great effort you've put into help folks find great affordable cables. In the end, I think I'm going to go with this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32953432742.html It seems to tick all my boxes (except for the L plug). I'm going to wait a few...

Low end. Cheap. Generic. Otherwise bang for buck cable thread!

I'm not sure why it's so hard to find the cable I'm looking for. Can anyone point me to a copper, 8- or 16-core cable that is black, MMCX, 3.5mm L-bending connector, with NO MEMORY wire. The closest I've found is this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33029543098.html (but it's not black)...

    JVC HA-FD01 Class S Solidege

I'm not one to talk someone out of a purchase. Only you can decide if this sidegrade is worth the cost. For me, given the choice between the FD01 and FD02, I bought the FD01s, but ONLY because I found them for a great price, used, on eBay. That said, having removable nozzles was a huge plus...

    JVC HA-FD01 Class S Solidege

Hi @surfgeorge. I still have the modded FD01s (with different amounts cotton swab, for each of my 4 sets of nozzles). I continue to enjoy enjoy them immensely. Regarding cables, at least to my ears, I don't hear any differences in sound, from any cables I've tried. Couldn't it be that certain...

San Francisco meetup CONFIRMED for March 30, 2019

I think my best shot is to continue hosting these events, and hope someone eventually forgets to take their amp. Awww... note to self: next time, provide guests with whiskey.

San Francisco meetup CONFIRMED for March 30, 2019

Hi Cary. Glad you can make it. Please RSVP on the meetup page, linked at the top of this thread. In order for me to keep track of who is coming, and what they are bringing (and to me easily contact folks, if needed) it helps me to have people's details in one place. Thanks. Dimitri

San Francisco meetup CONFIRMED for March 30, 2019

Thanks! Very useful into. I'll add to the event's RSVP page. Yeah, using one's phone or laptop as the DAC would be the weakest link in the chain. But, if someone doesn't own a DAP, it's the next best thing to not trying an amp at all, I guess.
