    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

When I first got my IE800s, I immediately switched to the largest round tips. History with past IEMs have shown that I've always needed the largest tips in order to get a good seal.   After a week or two, I couldn't get rid of a "buzz" that would generate in my right ear during certain...

FWIW, here's my thought on the ZX2 + HD700 pairing:   http://www.head-fi.org/t/612502/sennheiser-hd-700-impressions-thread/6525#post_12772906   TLDR: Good.

Can't help you directly, as I don't have a DP-X1. However, I do have the IE800, HD700 (plus balanced cable) and a Sony ZX2 (which doesn't have a true balanced output, but does use separated grounds for the left and right channels).   The IE800 and the balanced HD700 being fed by the ZX2 sound...

As far as being able to USE third party apps, like Poweramp, yes--I've seen just about every audio player program available for Android used on the ZX2. However, the consensus seems to be that only the stock player application has full access to all the audio/hardware features of the ZX2. In...

Interesting.   On my ZX2 I use a somewhat similar EQ with the HD700. Although, in my case, I stop @ 1KHz and I don't bother toning down the higher frequencies. I guess I'm so used to the added sharpness of the IE800 (which I DO EQ down around 6KHz), the highs on the HD700 just seem "right" to...

    Quick Impression: Sony MDR-7550

I certainly would never characterize them as fatiguing.

    SONY NW-ZX2 DAP

After the unveiling of the 1A and 1Z and much hemming and hawing, I have decided to stick with the ZX2 for now. I'm honestly not interested in chasing additional, hypothetical increases in sound quality. Rather, I'm more interested in an all-around DAP. And the 1A and 1Z eschew a lot of features...

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

MDR-7550 -> ie800 is precisely the progression I took. I simply can't go back to the Sonys. I mean, they're damn fine. But they always sound veiled and muffled when compared to the ie800 now. That's not to say you may not still prefer the 7550s afterwards. But for me, the ie800 made me realize...

Yeah, I looked at it briefly. It may sound strange, but there was one design decision that really turned me off: no dedicated buttons for track control. If you want to switch tracks, you'd need to turn on the screen and use the UI to skip. I may have to give it and the M2 a closer look, however.

Unlike a lot of folks on Head-Fi, the quality of sound reproduction is not #1 in my book. I've always been more of a gadget-lover. It's for that reason why I enjoy the ZX2 so much. Yes, the sound quality is outstanding—it surprised me just how much better it sounded compared to an iPod or even...

Just idly wondering... If the balanced and SE circuitry are distinct and separate from each other, does that mean these DAPs will need to be "burned in" twice--once for balanced connections and once for SE?

For what it's worth—I'm using a copper replacement cable from Moon Audio and I didn't notice any significant difference in the presentation of the treble. Then again, it's the Blue Dragon—which they state was designed to not significantly alter sound signature.   When I first started using my...

It's a synthetic material. I've had my ZX2 for approximately 1.5 years, and I can detect no degradation of the material on the back side--no cracking or peeling. It probably can be removed. But I suspect once gone, you would be left with a surface that is uglier than when you started. Plus...

I've been using the HD700 with a TRRS terminated Blue Dragon cable on my Sony ZX2 for a few weeks now. I am absolutely, completely and thoroughly impressed. While I don't think the HD700 were worth the $1,000 USD asking price four years ago, now that they can be had for ~$450, I see them as an...

    SONY NW-ZX2 DAP

While I realize this may just be a matter of semantics, I believe part of the reason why Sony chose Jelly Bean is because of their choice in SoC: The OMAP TI 4430.   That particular chip was in the ZX1, which obviously predates the ZX2 by at least an additional year. Perhaps Sony's R&D team...
