Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The Left Banke, in my high school's gymnasium, although I was in junior high at the time. My brother said it doesn't count: I'm not sure if he meant because of the group or the location. I enjoyed it regardless, and if it doesn't count then my first concert was a triple bill of Mountain, The...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The value of these new products is mind boggling. And yes, USB-C is special; not for sonic reasons but because it's a reasonable size, reversible, and sturdy. Unlike the tiny, one side up only, flimsy micro USB. Definitely ordering a Modi Multibit 2 and perhaps a Modi +, to replace the ones I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I had a quad of the Tung Sol 6L6 STR (in a Rogue Cronus Magnum). I was totally unimpressed with them. They were thick sounding with an overemphasized bass and didn't come close to NOS RCA or Sylvania 6L6GCs or the Reflector 6P3S-E. Edit: or the Genalex KT66 re-issue for that matter.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Lampizator has the Amber 4 starting at $4395. Still a little rich for me, particularly as the main rig is getting less use these days (for a variety of reasons). Modwright apparently still has their Elyse DAC but it's expensive (~$7K?). And of course there's various Chinese tube DACs but the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Yes, yes, yes, please yes! :L3000: I love my Lampizator Amber II but it requires a USB-SPDIF converter because its USB input is mediocre (to say the least). The newer Lampis probably don't but they're unaffordable. I'd love to simplify my main rig with a Schiit DAC for its reliability, form...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Ok, so I tried them again and the right channel is now working once more. Although the face of the shell separated, the wires are still connected and I'm guessing there's a poor solder joint somewhere? I've never soldered and with something this small, I doubt I could do it with my large...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Is there anyone in the US that repairs earbuds? I have a pair of Yinman 600 where one shell separated and the channel cut out. I've had that happen on several pairs of less expensive earbuds and it really upsets me as there's no reason it should occur.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

This by Nils-Erik Sparf and the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble is my favorite by far (I've probably listened to a couple of dozen versions). Original instruments but without any of the screech or rigid inflexibility of most early instrument groups. Superb, bravura playing that elucidates the...

I like banjos. And bluegrass and string band music. Although I'm not partial to high tenors singing it. Now if you're warning of certain types of banjo players, then I'll have to be concerned. :fearful:

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Just saw this as I've been really busy the last couple of weeks. I can manage that. Actually been looking a little at the Wilmington area, where I have cousins. Looks like a nice area. Being close to the ocean is kind of a necessity so although I have more cousins in Chapel Hill, I can't...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've used two different types of cable lifters (porcelain and wood) on a variety of floors. I've never heard a difference in sound just because of the lifters. They do make it easier to keep the cables (at least relatively) dust free and I have heard differences in sound between clean cables and...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Welcome back: glad you've recovered and are feeling better. Wish we had some of that New England coolness here. Florida is getting hotter every year: thinking about moving several hundred miles north.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks bcowen. I bought that tube. 👍 The first of what I'm sure will be several purchases to explore 6SN7s, which I've never done before. Good thing I have a bunch of 12A..7s to sell now that I'm officially old and will never use them all. Now I just have to read all of the posts...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Help! Has anyone compared a Yggdrasil (LIM?) to a Lampizator DAC? I have an Amber II that I love: except for the fact that its USB input is, shall we say, less than optimal and requires a USB-SPDIF converter to sound its best. I really want to simply my setup by getting rid of the converter but...
