Taking Koss Portapro to the Limit (cool mods).

I think the theory is making holes in the centre opens up the treble more and holes around the edges help bass. I found that making a hole in the foam pads (like folk do with Grado S cushions) gives much better results. I've had mine for ten years and never liked them really. I've never...

Shanling M1: An iPod Nano Competitor / DAP || USB DAC || USB Transport || Bluetooth 4.0 + aptX || DSD

A little late replying to this having only just bought the M1 but for anyone else wondering the same. I've had the same pair of Grado SR60s for twenty years and always had a love/hate relationship with them. I find them very harsh when paired with some sources but they sound absolutely fantastic...

Shanling M1: An iPod Nano Competitor / DAP || USB DAC || USB Transport || Bluetooth 4.0 + aptX || DSD

Excellent. Ordered. Thanks. I wouldn't have thought to look at an adapter. Am I right in thinking the M1 can only connect to a DAC via USB and not Toslink or Coax?

Shanling M1: An iPod Nano Competitor / DAP || USB DAC || USB Transport || Bluetooth 4.0 + aptX || DSD

Just received my @Shanling M1 after buying it in a sale for £85. Much prefer the UI to my DX50. One thing bothering me so far is the M1's inability to handle multidisc albums. For example, I have one album containing two discs. The first disc songs are tagged as Disc 1 out of 2 with track...

Bravo Audio - funny looking little tube amps

Had a go at making this headphone attenuator for the Bravo V2. The details are in there for the Bravo V2 version. After talking with Frans I found two 3.3 ohm resistors worked best. It certainly tames the volume and allows for a larger sweep of the volume knob.

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Yes I've given them a few hours of testing now. The biggest issue for me is the bass depth and definition (I don't know or use technical terms!) that's now missing. Interestingly the reduction in bass was also shown in the test inertianinja linked to earlier. I've also heard some sibilance that...

The angled velours. A couple of others using them in this thread I think.   Quite frustrating comparing these pads to the stock ones. The person who said when comparing hifi sound differences we have a sonic memory of around 6 seconds was spot on! We quickly adjust to different signatures...

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Thanks for the tips. I did get them on eventually.   I have to say that I'm initially disappointed with the sound. The life is sucked out of the music somewhat. I'm guessing mods are needed to get the best from the drivers with these pads. Can't wait to get them off and get the stock ones back...

I don't mind the headband too much. When I first got the mk3 the headband was too flat so I bent it steadily until it followed the contours of my head. It's more the pads that annoy me. I'm constantly having to readjust them so they're comfortable. I think it's the pleather material that causes...

I'm keenly following your pad exploits with the mk3! I see mks100 is using the hybrid HM5 pads. I couldn't find that particular type on Amazon UK. Amazon is the only source I can find of HM5 pads in he UK.   I find the stock pads a bit troublesome and uncomfortable. On my ears they're very...
