Since you like Ratatat, you may want to check out Minotaur Shock. I recall listening to them a year or two ago and being reminded of Ratatat. You may like The Field based on some of the examples you cited. For something different, check out Fridge (specifically the LP Happiness) or Flashbulb.

Usually iBuds are fine for me in the gym, but occasionally I take backband phones like my Senn PMX60s (aka Creative HQ-140). They don't sound great, but they're light, durable, and they'll stay put on your head.
