This probably isn't even really deserving of it's own thread but it is a bit of an interesting topic to me   Are on-ears/IEMs ok for studio use?   How come only over-ears are used in studios? Over-ears are never comfy to me, only on-ears and in-ears, so I'm just curious as to how these...

Referred to this thread kinda indirectly.   How depth-y are the pads? It's kinda hard to tell from the pictures, even pictures of the Beyers, but I'm looking for something with cups as deep as the HD380s.

Does anyone know if on-ears are acceptable for recording? I've never seen a studio with on-ears. Would the 518s be good for recording? My only other options are 280/380 but I'm afraid they'll get uncomfortable because of the pleather. Anyone else w big ears?

The 500's actually either squeeze my head or sit on top of it so it's painful. Judging by the kiosk it's (suprisingly) for me.

Might just try that. I'm in the US though so they might not have them on sale in the store. & yeah cause there's a new i model with the inline controls. Hopefully that cheapens the original model!

Thanks for the response! Should we be checking out the Sony store? Were the 600s at least 500-level?   It's hard to tell when they only let you sample 8kbps mp3s at kiosks.   EDIT: Was it a Sony Store or Sony Outlet?

Well we never got to return the 428's and when I do I'm certain I'll be springing for the 280/380, whichever is more affordable, but would a solution be to get new ear pads for the 428? Ones the jet out further from the base? I actually adore how light these cans are. Basically stuck for another...

^^^ Comes out to about $70 with coupon for the 280s which is what I paid for the 428 and 105 for the 380s. Definitely settled now. Thanks to everyone for their assistance in this thread!! Will update again when the headphones come in.
