Sony XBA-H1 and XBA-H3 Hybrid Dynamic and BA IEM
I just looked up Swimsonny's review of the XBA-2. This sentence started his conclusion. "As their first line of earphones with BA drivers I am really rather impressed and although my other dual Bas are better these are actually rather enjoyable and do deliver a good bassy sound. " Do...- Barry

Hearing loss?
Before you jump to conclusions, perhaps a visit to a physician or, better yet, an audiologist is in order. You may be losing hearing, or maybe there is wax or some other obstruction. An audiologist can provide objective information about your hearing and your options. Good luck.- Barry

Gold vs Copper in Philadelphia
In the spirit of recent posts, I am seeking to cheat on my mainstay IEMs - Shure 530s. I don't think Shure would mind - while she is reasonably sensitive, I do not sense a great deal of emotion. I am thinking hard about either the Monster Gold vs the Copper. I have heard the Copper at a local...- Barry

Radial Speakers - why don't more people buy em?
Well, I have a pair of shahinian obelisks, which I believe qualifies as a radial speaker and I love them. More realistic and less hi fi than many more traditional speakers. I have not heard Ohm speakers in a zillion years, but liked them back in the day. There are just not too many examples... -
Just bought Monster turbine copper
According to my audiologist, another significant risk with using q tips to clean out the wax is that the swab can actually push the wax deeper into your ear and repeated use can thicken and impact the wax. Makes sense, but I have never had that happen and I have used q tips often. Then again, I...- Barry

Audiologists
I do not recall what my audiologist charged, but it was more than $20. I do have some ideas. First, some Costco stores have a hearing aid section and I believe that they also do hearing tests. I know of more than one person who has had a good experience at Costco. Also, you might have a school...- Barry

Woo or Mapletree?
Regarding the snake oil assertion, I am wondering if Double F got his companies confused. I seem to recall another audio company with "maple" in its name that sells a variety of different tweaks and specialized wires that some may consider "snake oil" given the subjectivity associated with these...- Barry

Does the diameter of bulk wire affect the sound quality of cable?
This seems like one of those "duck and cover" questions to me. There is a whole school of thought that favors thin, solid core wire. And other schools look for complicated stranded cables. As for myself, I think that it may be time to drop out of school, although my experiments with single solid... -
Earbuds for an old man
You might think about the audio technica cm700 buds. They are skewed towards the high end of the frequency spectrum. While your dad probably does hear well, many middle aged and older folks have high frequency loss. Symptoms include not hearing well in busy restaurants or ringing in the ear.- Barry
