Haven't heard of John Adams will have to give him a try, thanks ephemere. For Philip Glass I would also recommend Glassworks. Most of it is uptempo and one of his better albums IMO.

Thanks for that! Good to have a straightforward review of these cans and their strenghts highlighted. I would certainly like to try them someday to see if they are for me. Definatly one of the first cans I would try if I decided to go closed. Maybe after I get an amp and probably a new source.

I agree on trying the 595s unless you are looking for different suggestions now.

some threads to read: amp synergy with dt880 dt 880 owners: what amp do you use? amp for beyer dt880 I recently purchased an 880. I'm probably going to go with a tube amp. Price range to do them justice would be around $300 and up IMO.

All three phones are well respected around here so you know you aren't getting a dud atleast. If you can't fully decide based on research just get one and if you don't like it you could sell/trade for one of the others. Based on your preference though (pop/rock) the SA5Ks would be the one to try...
