Vintage/Current R2R DAC Owners Discussion, Insight, and Review Thread
I recently did a 2 month comparison between the Geek Pulse Xfi, Lynx Hilo, Audio Note 2.1 Rev B and a Wyred for Sound uDac through my BHSE and Stax SR-007 Mk I. I think DAC differences are very subtle and it was difficult to tell one from the other but at the end of the day I preferred the Audio...- audiosceptic

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics
I received my Geek Pulse Xfi on May 1st and have been evaluating it since comparing to a Audio Note 2.1 DAC and a Lynx Hilo. The headphones were mainly Hifiman HE-6 through an Audio Note HE-6 amp and Stax 007 through a BHSE. First off my buying experience during the kickstarter campaign was a...- audiosceptic

Audio Note Dacs, transports and wire
I recently purchased a Audio Note kit 2.1b built by digitalpete. I have a Lynx Hilo to compare with and think the Audio Note is as good or slightly better than the Lynx. DAC's are so close in sound it takes some effort to really distinguish one form another but I definitely prefer the Audio Note...- audiosceptic

Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition
Quote: Just to offer another opinion I think the SED's are a great match with the BHSE. I currently use the Psvane EL34PH in my BHSE but I don't hear a big difference as others claim. If I hadn't already purchased the Psvane's I would be perfectly happy with the SED's or a NOS quad of...- audiosceptic

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Quote: I used the XLR Rothwell attenuators between a Audio Research VT-70 tube amp and a RSA B-52. I heard no loss of sound quality and they worked well in my application.- audiosceptic

Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition
Quote: I can't tell the difference between various EL34 tubes in the BHSE. I can hear EL34 differences in other amps such as my Consonance M10S where the Mullard XF2 reign supreme. I'd try the Psvane EL34PH in my M10S but I'm too afraid to pull them out of my BHSE for fear of center pin...- audiosceptic

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Quote: I owned a Atma Sphere S-30 MK II for over a year and for a time it was my preferred setup for the HE-6. I used a Audio Research LS26 preamp and DAC7 to feed the Atma Sphere. This combo was very fast and detailed and brought out the best of what the HE-6 does. I decided to scale...- audiosceptic

Quote: The pins are rough and unfinished which may have accounted for me pulling a little harder on the base when removing the tube and the center pin snapped off. A little unexpected from a $399.00 quad of tubes.- audiosceptic

Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition
I've been listening with the Psvane EL34PH for a couple weeks now in my BHSE. I will 2nd whoever said be careful with the center pins. I broke one off in one of my Psvane tubes and I've never done this before with other tubes after hundreds of tube swaps. I found these to make the broken tube...- audiosceptic

The Decware TABOO MK 111 Thread
Quote: I emailed Decware today about the hum with the new Lucid mode is engaged. There is also hum with the old Lucid mode engaged but barely noticeable. I checked for hum with my HD-800 and Beyer T7 and it was still there. I could swap tubes but I'll wait to hear from Decware. I...- audiosceptic

The Decware TABOO MK 111 Thread
I received my Taboo III a few weeks ago and still playing around to figure out if I like this or not. I like the new lucid mode but am noticing hum when it is turned on through my LCD-2 REV1.- audiosceptic

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Someone in this thread stated the Decware Taboo really didn't drive the HE6 well. What do people think about the new Taboo Mk. III? The blurb on Decware's site indicates it will drive the LCD-2 "and other planars". http://www.decware.com/newsite/TABOO.htm- audiosceptic
