Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
Someone on the main Schiit thread (you know, the noisy one) said that the MJ3 is one of the better preamps he's heard. So, maybe get another pure-amp/speaker-amp for a difficult to drive headphone and the MJ3 as pre. Assuming space and funds are available for such extravagance....- artur9

Sort of curious about the cost of production of a new tube? I'm sure QC would drive the cost up a bit (a lot?) The cost of most of the tubes discussed here is less about the cost of production and more about rarity etc?- artur9

Yeah, brightness seems to be a pejorative that people throw around when something isn't to their taste yet they can't really express why - don't mean when used to explain the sensitivity issue. Muddy bass, everyone gets. Poor imaging, ditto. Well, don't like it, must be because it's "bright."...- artur9

IIRC, in the book it is stated that the "little makers" are drowned. One can hope that the Fremen practice sustainable harvesting practices :-)- artur9

IIRC, it was said that the source of the song on the CD was an MP3. Just that it had to be converted to Redbook to be turned into a CD.- artur9

Having never heard any treble my entire life, y'all make me curious about the treble sensitivity. Is it sensitivity to frequencies above XKhz, where X could be 5, 7, 10, etc? Is it not just a frequency sensitivity but rather a volume & frequency sensitivity. Something like loud 5Khz hurts...- artur9

You know how there's Grendel, telling the story of Beowulf from the "monster's" POV? Where's Dune told from the Sandworms PoV? I mean, the horror of having one's offspring drowned so that some bipeds can harvest some psychoactive drug?- artur9

You make me wonder: what if the artist created it in MP3? There's no possible hi res version of it in that case. edit: ninja'd by @ArmchairPhilosopher ...- artur9

There's a video on youtube (duh) that shows/explains how vinyl and CD are "equivalent" quality. Very nicely done. There's another explanation that says if everything is "right" vinyl can deliver 14bits of dynamic range up to 70KHz; only on a first play, sadly. Would love digital that offered...- artur9

What did you use to generate that? Using the spectrum analyzer in Audacity, my vinyl rips look better. Also, the "high res" standard sometimes allow for upsampling. I know Mark Waldrep has issues with that so called standard.- artur9

There was a long, similar conversation about this behavior either here or in another thread. Because the balanced->se behavior isn't the same in all modes of the Lokius (Nexus? Continuity?) the above observation was similarly described. The upshot being that it's working as designed, which...- artur9
