Looking for a new $800 CD/SACD source - help needed!

OceanEnthusiast, thank you for the input. Glad to hear you're happy with 2900. BTW, did you have a chance to compare it with it's younger brother, 2200? I've heard that audiowise they're quite comparable. Does anybody know, how Denon 2900 compares to a good $400-500 Redbook player like...

Looking for a new $800 CD/SACD source - help needed!

Hi everybody! I'm looking for a new source. My budget is around $700-800 (actually it's bigger, but our prices are much higher than yours). What I want is the best CD/multichannel SACD possible (for the money, of course). DVD-Video would be nice (it'll reduce the number of boxes in my rack)...

Marantz SA8260: To buy or not to buy?

BigD, thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, after posting this thread I've discovered that the player I was aiming at was factory reconditioned (hence the discount), and this is a dealbreaker for me. And the new one is out of my range. BTW, do you know the model number that will replace...

Marantz SA8260: To buy or not to buy?

Hi everybody! I'm looking for a good Redbook/Multichannel SACD audio-only player in $600-$700 price range. Marantz SA8260 fit perfectly, but I still have some doubt. Is it safe to buy it now? I mean, is there any replacement for this player from Marantz is going to be released soon? I don't...

Has anyone used/heard the Onkyo CP802?

Has anyone used/heard the Onkyo CP802?

BTW, there's a single disk player CP502, which seems to be completely indentical to 802 in all other respects. Doesn't know how it sounds, though. I've started a thread on this player (and Yamaha S1500), but no one answered.

Anyone heared Yamaha DVD-S1500 or Onkyo DV-SP502?

Hi! Did anyone had a chance to audition these two universals? I've read some reviews of S1500, but they where mainly focused on video, not audio. I'm looking for a sub-$500 source with good Redbook & SACD sound (DVD-Audio is not important), and these players looks very promising. Any opinion?

    Another (great?) player from Philips

Philips has just announced (on the last CES, I think) it's new DVD player, that will (apparently) replace famous 963SA. Here it comes, guys: Philips DVD975SA! Here some info: The DVD975SA preserves the exquisite difference between a Stradivarius and a mere fiddle. It plays SACD, DVD...

Dolby DIgital Vs. DTS..... Which one is better ?

Returning to the original topic. One of my friends purchased D-VHS player and some tapes. The new ones uses some high bitrate Dolby Digital (more than 500 Kbits/sec), and he says that (in his opinion, of course) it clearly outperforms DTS (at lest it half-rate version). So, it seems that...

Distortion and image collapse with SACD thru headphones?

Quote: Originally posted by JaZZ It's not accurate, as the author did, to speak of «64-fold oversampling». In fact it's a true sampling with 2.8224 MHz, not sort of interpolation. And that's exactly the 64-fold of the redbook sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz, therefore 6 bit at 44.1 kHz...

Finally got Senn 590! First impressions and question

Well, I've heard a lot about 590's long break-in time, and I've performed about 30 hours of break-in. However, the changes where little. The only real improvement I've noticed was the highs; they became somewhat tamed and natural (out of the box they where too bright and had unpleasant metal...
