Apex Pinnacle2 and Pinnacle2 Ultra Loaner program
I have been the lucky recipient of the Apex Pinnacle 2 (P2) for the past week via Todd's extremely generous loaner program. I was able to use it as a preamp in my 2 channel speaker system and as a headphone amp. The source is a PS Audio DirectStream DAC running via my network and Roon. The...- 4N6

Ps audio direct stream dsd DAC
Okay... Could you please describe the rest of your system? What did you have it hooked up with? What does "incorrect" mean? What is your reference for "correct"? Heck, if one's reference for sound is the local community band shell, hearing something played at Carnegie Hall would sound...- 4N6

For the DS owners, the new Yale firmware is an excellent upgrade from PP. Easy to do and free. Gotta love PS Audio.- 4N6

McIntosh MHP1000 Headphones Announced in CES
I asked McIntosh about the Beyerdynamic relationship (my question in bold, their answer in italics)... BTW, I am still loving them. A great set of cans that seems to be overlooked. Pity. Is the driver the same as used in other Beyerdynamic headphones? If so, which one? Or is this driver unique...- 4N6

McIntosh MHP1000 Headphones Announced in CES
Okay. I take it that you actually heard the 1000's with those amps? If you didn't (which is what I suspect), then your "PERSONAL OPINION" isn't worth too much.- 4N6

HD800 vs HE1000/MHP1000 impressions. Suprises all around!
Listening to my new pair of MHP1000's now, and am mightily impressed. Among the top headphones I've listened to. Terrific detail and good overall frequency balance. I'll write up a full review in a while. I do like them a lot better than my old HD800's. Although the 800's are amazing for...- 4N6

MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100
Just got back from Fairfax, VA listening to the McIntosh MHP1000 headphones via the MHA100 amp. Compared them extensively to my LCD-XC's. Very interesting differences. The Audeze is warm...very warm. Heavy on the bass and light on the treble. Rich sound but lacks in detail. Bass has lots of...- 4N6

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Reminds me of another great quote... "If it measures like crap yet sounds good, then it is good. If it measures well yet sounds like crap, then it is crap and you are measuring the wrong thing."- 4N6

Awesome experiment. I wish I could have heard it. It also says a lot about the quality of the HD800.- 4N6

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
And that is only half of the battle. The other half is personal perception. Harry Pearson of the absolute sound magazine thought that the sound of live, unamplified music should be benchmark to which all music reproduction is judged. This sounds good in theory, but even one's perception of...- 4N6

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
What IS sound accuracy?!? Unless one were there during the recording of the music and heard it live first hand, how does one really know what is "accurate"? Different microphones, different recorders, different studios, different mixing consoles, different speakers for the engineer to listen...- 4N6
