I like them, except for the Robin's Egg Blue color of the jacket, but I can live with that! I might cover them with some techflex in the future though.

Your (very nice) speakers dip down to 3.2 ohms. This might put a strain on either Aegir or Vidar in Mono mode. Neither Aegir or Vidar are rated into a 4 ohm load in Mono mode. A single Vidar in stereo mode would have no problem with that load, but I don't know if it would it would produce the...

I love my Freya S, but I am a sucker for passive preamps, especially those that have an active/buffered option as well. Current passive/buffered/active preamps in my collection. Muse Model One Melos SHA Gold, modded to "Master Reference" by the late Melos Restoration Services Tortuga Audio...

Please allow me to add my voice to the choir as well. I've used tubed preamps in my system for over 30 years. I love my Freya S, and do not find myself wanting for more.

Another thing that might make a difference is your cable routing. Check to make sure that your speaker cables are not running parallel to your power cables. If they touch each other, it should be at 90 degree angles. Speaker cables are less prone to this kind of interference than interconnects...

I'm going to guess that your powered speakers have coupling capacitors, which will block DC, but can color the signal. Vidar has no coupling caps.

My Vidar exhibits the speaker thump when powering off. That's normal, I have other amps that do the same thing, and others that don't. My Saga also makes the small "pops" when switching inputs/modes/mute, but those sounds are different than the turn off "thump". The "pops" are louder on the...

Hi @tin-ear, Actually, that's exactly where today's Upscale Audio started, and Kevin Deal did work there back in the day. I don't know if there was more than one Kevin, I normally bought from Mike Harvey back then. Mike went on to work for Audio Research after he left RSL/Upscale Audio. I...

This may sound like a cop out, but it depends on the table. On my Michell Gyro SE, it absolutely sounds better (to me) with the Michell clamp. With my Pioneer PLX-1000, record weights and mats do indeed change the sound. Is the change an improvement, or just different? Lately I've been...

Me too. I was surprised how many images of Corgis that search brought up.

That's a great choice for a cartridge. When it's time to replace the stylus, buyers will have the option to try the AT Microline or Shibata styli for a modest price.

Thank you for the detailed reply! I will have to check my GE 6FQ7's and see if they have the dots. I do have a quartet of the RCA clear top 6FQ7's, and they are nice indeed!

Freya S is wonderful. I'm still a bit surprised that it doesn't get more love around here. I've said this before, but this is the first time in over 30 years that I have no tubes anywhere in the signal path of my main system, and I'm not suffering from withdrawal symptoms! I hope Freya S...
