Album: HeadAmp

My second amp build. I wanted a balanced amp for my balanced source/phones. It uses 4 AMB Alpha 20 buffer/amp boards and a Twisted Pear LCBPS. The vertical build was intended to serve double-duty as a headphone stand, which worked very well. Unfortunately, the copper proved so reactive to the oils from the earpads that keeping it looking good became impossible.

How hard is it to build an amp, and is it possible to scale the build to power car speakers? Do you need an electrical engineering degree to do so?

A degree is not necessary--but some rudimentary electronics knowledge helps.

These amp boards are "line-level, "so not really what you want for powering speakers. If you're wanting to drive car speakers I'd look up "Class D Amplifier Kit" on eBay.

The Wiki article on line-level: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_level

The AMB site is here: https://www.amb.org/audio/ He's got lots of very well-designed projects, many of which have a huge following here on Head-Fi.
