These were just announced today at Sony's 2015 IFA press conference!

It looks like Sony has really stepped up their game with these!  They look really promising!  Although I can't say I'm crazy about the colors they chose (Charcoal Black for me, please).  Hopefully (and as always), they'll sound as nice as they look.

Look good at least in black. Much better than MDR1/10 series with their (IMO) tacky metal effect plastic. Clean and functional Scandinavian-like design. Best looking Sony phone since MDR 570 ?

To me, the design of the MDR-100AAP reminds me a lot of Sony's clean and beautiful industrial design language of the 90's.

The Z7 and the 100AAP are the two newest headphone designs from Sony, and both of them look great.

Hopefully this tread will continue when they design the replacement for the MDR-1A, which is based on a nearly 3-year-old design that I've never been that big a fan of.

I liked the 570 as well, I think these could sell pretty well if marketed right, Sony don't do much PR here in the UK, I have been promised a review pair so will update asap.

We are being a bit harsh on the MDR-1x series I think , they are still a great looking design now.

Maybe but they don't give a good impression in shops when I've seen them. Most of the demo examples I've seen seem to the have the metallic coating peeling or rubbing off leaving white or grey plastic showing. Not a good look. Sound fine though.

And the wait shouldn't be too much longer since these launch on October 1st in the UK!

They are already up for preorder on Amazon.uk!

I just hope they sound a lot better than the MDR-10R, which I found rather muffled and dull. Wasn't a big fan of the 1R and 1A either, but that's really down to personal preference (I prefer something more bold and powerful like Audio-Technica M50x). Here in Canada most stores only sell 10R variants and have them up for demo... it's getting boring lol

The best of the last series ironically was the cheapest, the MDR-10RC, if the 1R or 1A sounded like these i would have kept them.

They are on sale for £50 at Argos and Currys so must be a real bargain !!

I'listening to my 10RC now, and for the price they are great. Bass is a bit mor controlled, but lacks some punch. Still a bit bloomy, less so than 1A. Treble is clear and detailed, but takes a step back compared to 1A. Decent seal, less comfortable than 1A

Well, design is about tastes. From my POV, the MDR 1x series design language is a timeless piece of craftmanship. 3 years and counting and I'm still in love with the looks of the silver-brown MDR1R. Had also a black-red back then, and loved it also, but it's not on par with the S-B. The MDR1A refined on it, and that is really good as well.
These new cans are somewhat cheapo looking and just too flashy, even the black I for me. But there are people who love this, and It's understandable of course, everyone has a different taste.
