This would be my first DAP ever since I last had an ipod. Been reading up on these 2 DAP and the price has gone down to 499 for both. X7 could cost more if I want to upgrade the amp. Any other suggestion would be welcome as I am new to this. Thanks

Personally, my preference would be for the Onkyo. It is outstanding. So is the X7, I am just partial to the DP-X1.

If you choose the Dp-x1, go for the newer x1a version.
1) 64gb instead of 32gb
2) Capacitors changed
3) Improved jack holes
MAIN SONIC IMPROVEMENT
Reduced noise floor (quite a huge improvement over the DPX1)
Cleaner sound
