Sorry for the noob question, for I am sure I am doing something stupid. But here goes...

I have an e7/e9 combo that I am trying to output to the valhalla 2 I got today and there is no sound coming from the valhalla 2.

The layout I have is usb from laptop (macbook pro) to the e7/e9 and then RCA red/white out to valhalla 2 RCA red/white in.

The HD600s are plugged into the valhalla 2. All 4 tubes light up when I turn on the amp.

When I plug my headphones back into the e7/e9 I get sound output from the e7/e9.

Also, If I put the valhalla on full volume I can hear music very very faintly.

What am I doing wrong?

You might have to put the Dac in line out mode. I dont have it so don't know for sure but the Fiio X1 I had years ago you had to select the mode.

Have you tried turning up the volume knob on the e9? Not finding much other than dont have headphones plugged in while the rca is as it disables the rca.

Yea, it makes no difference. I just went and bought another RCA cable at the store and same thing. At least that's one thing eliminated.

There doesn't appear to be a setting for this in the e7 or e9 manual.

Correct. The only thing plugged in is the E7 into the E9 dock, USB out from Macbook to USB in on E9, power adapter, and the RCA out.

Just tested output from the TV and that did end up working. So it must be something with my DAC. I really didn't want to spend more money on a new DAC, ugh...

Does removing the E7 from the chain do anything?

Output from the MBP is no longer an option since it was the DAC.
