New iRiver AK70

Can anyone point me to the download file for the MQS Streaming Server specific to the AK 70? I can't find it on the Astell & Kern site, and I see to remember reading somewhere that their level of support for the AK 70 has already been reduced! I've tried the file specific to other DAP's, and it doesn't seem to work.

Any wisdom much appreciated!

Michael,

You can download the MQS Server software here - https://www.astellnkern.com/eng/content/support/download/list.asp

The software isn't player specific, but OS specific (Mac OS or Windows). It doesn't matter which one you download as they are all the same. I believe the one that says KANN - MQS Server is near the top of the list and can be used for any of our Wi-Fi enabled players.

The AK70 is one of our newest players behind the KANN and SP1000. There is no reduction in support on this model and it is being fully supported.

Fortunately no, but I have read about other AK's having 2.5mm socket problems and have therefore treated mine as carefully as possible. Some folks have even opined hoping Astell & Kern might switch at some point to a more durable 4.4mm balanced socket.

Just posting so I can follow (notifications) this thread. Love my AK70 and using it as a transport for my iFi micro iDSD.

Is it possible to put a APK file in the memory card and install from there, also I heard the update to support other streaming app like moov and tidal, is it possible to uninstall these app, I have the intention to get the twilight rose version for a music player only with my own files, I have no need for streaming.

one more question, If i get the AK CD ripper, what resolution Flac files can it convert.

Hi,

You are unable to install APK files onto the AK70. It is also not possible to uninstall the moov and Tidal apps on the player.

The CD Ripper will rip CDs in to Wave or FLAC files. It will rip them as 16/44.1 files.

Thanks, I though it probably can do much higher resolution, there is no need to get the CD ripper then if you can do this on the PC at the same resolution, even the PC can do 24/44.1

correct, it will not upconvert files. The CD Ripper is a convenience accessory for people who do not have optical drives on their laptops, mac books, etc. or someone that wants to rip their CDs directly to the player and skip the extra step of ripping to the computer, then transferring to the player. The AK CD Ripper can also be used as an external CD drive for a laptop or desktop.

Don't you think it's a waste of money to use as a normal external CD drive, considering the ripper cost over USD 400, PC drives only last a few year with normal wear and tear, I would rather get a normal external disk drive to do the same thing.

this thread looks like a ghost town.
Well you know the AK70 was released a year ago, so in Head-fi terms its both obsolete and no longer fit for purpose (as a FOTM)...
Strangely it still seems to work well for me and i have no desire to discard it, clearly a banning is imminent!

regards,

Giles
