Can't decide between the two. I love bassy songs like hip-hop and rap but also the complete opposite like classical and lana del rey

mdr-1a is a bassy headphone with a smooth sound. Extremely comfortable.
Momentum 2 has better defined sound that fits more genres. Bass is emphasised, but not as much. Good comfort, unless you have big ears.

Alright I'll look into the mdr1a. Good for both bassy and non bassy songs?

mdr-1a is good all around, should do fine for all the genres. Maybe overall the Momentums are slightly more resolving, but still I would take Sonys due to much better comfort.

So you'd say that the mdr1a has a better bass than the momentum?

I wouldn't say it's better bass. It has more bass, that's for sure. Momentum 2 might be slightly better in terms of sound quality overall (just a bit), but if they turned out to be too small for you, then getting Sonys might be the safer pick, especially if you were to listen to them for longer period.

Sony wins for comfort, Momentum wins for better detail and more balance. Its a matter of more bass vs better quality bass
