JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread

Since those viewing this thread would probably appreciate this more than the general public browsing the classifieds: My SZ2000 is still up for grabs. As far as I can tell, it is in flawless condition and I'm also throwing in three sets of ear pads: JVC HA-MR77X (same as the 55X pads), Brainwavz sheepskin leather, and stock. Here's the link for pics!

I'm curious on how the Schitt Magni 2 would sound compared to the E12 or Cayin C5...

On specs alone, the Magni 2 should push them harder. The e12 is 850mW total into 32ohm, the C5 is 800mW per channel giving you 1600mW into 32ohm, and the Magni 2 is 1200mW per channel giving you 2400mW into 32ohm. More juice is what the JVC love.

I think I might just stay with the Cayin C5 as it's portable, and has a good amount of power, I might buy a high end AMP and DAC in the future though I hope I don't regret my decision, thank you for the tips and specs.

If anything I will use the Fiio E18 as a DAC and the C5 as an amp, it might not be the best thing, but it's something...

I've used both the HM5 Pleather and HM5 Sheepskin (See pics below), and the Sheepskin are definitely the way to go between the two. They transfer more of the bass and feel much nicer against your head, worth the extra $$ imo.
That looks badass dude, too bad amazon dont ship this to New Zealand but I'll find a way to get me a pair of these.

Anyone have any experience using LG V20 into C5, or just LG v20 in general?

Does anyone run the Peace equalizer on your PC? I'm looking for a equalizer setting to brighten up my JVC SZ2000. This little guy has monstrous bass hit but I'm trying to tweak EQ to remove the veil on it

Never owned any headphones before, never owned amps before, been listening to music all my life on stock apple earpods.
But techno changed me and so begins my foray into bass cans (also after following HBB's bass cans thread for some time. :D)

I first bought the Pro700mk2 two weeks ago used for $70, at first running it using my un-amped, straight-from-iPhone source set-up. Severe disappointment ensued as touted bass performance from reviews were nowhere to be found. Dynamics were on par with my stock Apple earpods, if you would allow me to be so blasphemous.
Did more digging on forums and bought an E12 for $80, some improvements in volume and body of the sound, but still not to my satisfaction in the bass department.
The magic came when I learned about EQ from your discussions above (I use CloudEQ parametric equalizer app on iPhone to EQ soundcloud tracks).
The trick was to make an extreme V-shape curve.. dropping overall gain to -16db, dropping mids to all the way to -12 and then pumping lows all the way up +10, and trebles +8. With the E12's knob at max volume and its 'gain' toggle turned on, I had finally achieved what I thought is the "take two subwoofers to your head" effect seen in one of the online reviews. Much air is being moved in the low frequencies, I like. Never thought 32ohm cans loved so much juicing.

Just as I was starting to fall in love with the Pro700mk2's, I wanted more, so I found out about the JVC HZ2000 'King of Bass' cans in this thread.
Went out and bought one used for $80, I tested it for about 30 secs while it was still on stock earpads - I have to say it's not at all impressive compared to above tuned Pro700mk2, which is giving the SZ2000's a real run for its money. Level of disappointment in my heart seem to mirror that time when I first used the Pro700mk2's out of the box.
I came home, threw away the flaking earpads, ordered some Brainwavz HM5 angled pleather replacements for $40, and will not be using the headphones prior to the arrival of the pads tomorrow.
I am treating this excruciating wait as a ritual, a rite of passage to achieve bass nirvana.

Alas, this left me wondering... will bass nirvana be achieved? With the amount of positive raves about the SZ2000s in this forum, Im curious if it will live up to the Pro700mk2's.
I'm a bit concerned with what came across as rather mediocre sound from my 30sec testing even with the E12 and CloudEQ setup.
The earpads are the only saving grace now, and I'm quite curious about how much it can change the sound when it arrives tomorrow.

Opinions?

They will give you bass nirvana, crushing the Pro700mk2 easily, but only if you find an amp with more juice. The SZ2k wants/needs/requires a bunch of juice. I went through a few amps to get there, but once I got my iFi Micro iDSD capable of 4000mW into 16ohm, the SZ2k sucked up that juice and bounced my head around like a kitten playing with a yarn ball. The E12 only has 800mw a channel into 32ohm, and while that will make them bump, it won't drive them to their full potential. My advice is to enjoy the Pro700k bass until you can get another amp, and when you do, you'll be back in here going "Holy Hell, so that is why the JVC reign supreme!", lol.

I really hate you for introducing this item -> iFi iDSD Micro, to me.

I have proceeded to scour reviews on the internet and after hours of reading, the poisonous bass bug has bitten me again.

I will be getting a Black Label edition tonight for $420. My brain says no but the soul listens not.

I hope it will be good, at least I rationalize it in a way that this might be a permanent portable amp investment for years to come, perhaps to power ANY cans that might come my way in the future.

LOL, you'll only hate me until you use it in Turbo mode with the X Bass and 3D switches turned on through those SZ2k's. Then, your hate will melt, replaced with immense gratitude. Man, you have no idea what you're in for. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think when you get it.

I'm on my way to getting it now. Damn, son, I think I'm sliding down the slippery slope a little too faaaaast. But it's exhilarating From Apple EarPods two weeks ago to this.

Meanwhile, the review on majorhifi sims up the idsd micro:

"If you’re in the market for a DAC/Amp combo and you haven’t yet considered this model, you need to get your life together and go check it out. Even if the Black Label were to cost twice as much, it would still be worth the price. So at $549, it’s nothing short of a steal."

Also, since I will have both the E12 and the idsd, what will happen if I stack them?
