I am an older gent, came up in the DOS world.. A couple times, my wife micro sd card in her smartphone and camera got corrupt. She put it in a computer, and couldn't read it or copy from it.. So, she came and gave it to "daddy" (me).

I quickly put it back in the computers. Went to a DOS prompt.. The sd card was in an USB adapter and the Drive was E.. 
 
I typed in "chkdsk E: /f"... 
 
DOS went to work, and after that command finished, the sd card was okay. The sd card was readable, and I could copy files off.Which I promptly did. And reformated the sd card in the their devices..

Somehow all the pictures from my CD (family vacation photos) vanished from the SD.

Just not sure if I should try it myself or should I better find professional services which can do it without risk of losing my files forever.

There are software recovery programs. You may not get every single picture back, but you will get a majority.
