On the verge of purchasing a pair of HE1000V2.
Looking to buy a great headamp to match its quality.
Current options considered (which are priced similarly at my local dealer):
- Ayon HA-3
- Leben CS300XS
- Luxman P700/750u
- Pass HPA-1
- Simaudio 430HA

Which, in your experience, will best match and bring out the best of the HE1000V2?

Thanks!
I would also consider the Wells Audio Enigma or Headtrip. I own the Enigma with upgrades almost to the level of the Headtrip and also own the McIntosh MAH100 and the PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP Integrated amp (its headphones output runs through the same tube circuits as the speaker tabs just with resistors to reduce the output power for headphones). If you want solid state I personally love the pairing with the Wells but for tubes the PrimaLuna is hard to beat at its price.

Have you tried driving headphones directly off the Primaluna speaker taps? would a resistor be required?

No, I haven't. I do run headphones out of the speakers tabs of the MHA100 and in some cases I think they sound better.
It is my understanding that SS amps do not need the resistors but tube amps do.

Haven't heard of Wells Audio and they, also including Primaluna are not available in my country.
The idea of connecting headphones that measure above 25-30 ohms to speaker amplifiers, which are regulated to 'see' around 4-16 ohms (MAX!), sounds weird, as well as adding more attenuaters on the way, obviously degrades the sound quality. I do admit not having any experience with it and prefer using a dedicated 'phones amp.

Strange that no one uses or heard the HE1000 with the Pass/Ayon/Luxman - as they are more 'mainstream' manufacturers...

I just bought the HE1000 V2 as a possible upgrade to my 800S, and it arrived with the left driver DOA. In addition to that, I wasn't blown away by the build quality for $3000. Needless to say, it's already been sent back and I decided to get a refund instead of a replacement. Sorry but I'm terrified of quality control issues now and am extremely gun shy on another purchase. I will stick with my Sennheiser for now. Hifiman needs to step up their quality game if they're going to price headphones at that level.

Actually this price growing is already tiresome, not only HiFiMAN, it is embarrassing. This site is paradise for manufactures, they can not have better advertise than here.
Another examples is IEM, how quick there prices growed too, for these nonsense prices $2-3K it should be absolutely perfect in everything mainly in sound which is not and probably little will be. And moreover most of these manufactures doing this only from enthusiasm not being real master in this industry so their big prices are at least very very courageous.
Unfortunately who want it these days have to pull a lot from the pocket.

I use the stock balanced cable for the time being it sounds good with a good dac and amp
Not poor but I am only willing to spend a certain amount This hobby can be never ending
I just got a Burson Conductor V2+ yesterday. I was sitting and listening with my HEK V1 using stock cables. I am truly enjoying the sound from this configuration.
I wondered for a moment about cables and "better" AMP/DACS ... then I though about the cost and the laws of diminishing returns on investment..
I went back to listening and felt quite content with what I have. Now, if I can just hold that thought.

Well, that is a way, but not the best. I would miss the discussions and hearing about new gear. The "best" way to do it is to have a bit of self control and to put things into a perspective suitable to one's unique situation.
