So I have learned that my Macbook has a digital out built into the headphone jack so I can get 24/196 to my E17 but it still says "48k 16bit", what do I need to change on my computer/iTunes to get it to 96/196k 24bit?

Not sure if iTunes supports this? You might want to try other players like jRiver Music Center?

iTunes supports almost anything sampling rate wise as long as its in ALAC IIRC, which is how I bought them from HD tracks, only issue is its telling be they are anywhere from 5,000-60,000kbps, i believe for 24/96 its 4-5000 kbps and for 24/196 its around 9000kbps, then that my E17 just says 48/16. Do E17's not do ALAC?

So older macbooks optical out only does 24/96.... and the E17 will only do 24/192 over optical, cool. So if there another amp/dac with EQ that will do use 24/192?

Just in case: Check out the "Audio Midi Setup" App that comes standard in your Mac. There you can set the output for each device.
Only \if you ar not already using it that is...

Cheers,

Pahaha, got it, thx for telling me about audio midi set up :). Do I need to change it every time i switch between 88khz and 96 and stuff? And will a 192khz song played at 96 sound the same as the 96 version played at 96?
