Gustard X20pro DAC (ES9028Pro)

The USB card by Gustard is small and fits in a slot. You would just need a Torx driver to open the case and back panel to get it in. I don't know what they would charge for just the card. This card does not do DSD512, which people say is the best quality. The XMOS chip used by Gustard is not the latest and greatest, so you might want to wait. Also their outboard converter doesn't have DSD512 or the latest XMOS USB chip.

The higher performance option is an outboard box that converts from USB to I2S or SPDIF coax. These usually have better clocks with less jitter.

When a good option for getting DSD512 happens, I'll go for it then. Right now, only a few guys have hacked together their own solution with much soldering and effort, and are very pleased using HQ Player to upsample to DSD512 compared to DSD256.

I was considering the same thing, and came up with this:

It also does up to DSD512. What do you think? and are there better options out there?

I've not really studied up on this all yet as the choices for DSD512 are still few.

The Gustard does have a funny problem with non-conventional wiring of the HDMI connector for I2S after getting it wrong for an older product and then keeping the same pinout for compatibility. You either have to custom wire a cable, or something like reverse audio polarity and swap L+R channels. Some discussion at whatsbestforum along with Gustard mods and tweaks.

Just simply buy Singxer SU-1 and forget. Very high SQ is more important than have or don't have DSD512...

Yeah I was considering that, but I was under the impression that I2S is superior to even coax. The Singxer only has one coax output right?, if the LKS sounds anywhere near as good (no idea), then it wins just by the sheer connectivity options no?

See my post with DSD512 photos in LKS USB-100 thread in Computer Audiophile.
There is also an instruction for HDMI LVDS wiring without soldering.
As for the sound, I prefer SU-1 for Windows (up to DSD256 at this moment) and USB-100 for Linux.
The internal USB card in my DAC-X20 has been taken out, as it degrades the sound quality even not in use. A choce without the card is clever.

Here is the USB receiver someone over at whatsbestforum got working in his Gustard X20 to do DSD512 reliably: http://www.diyinhk.com/shop/audio-kits/107-xmos-dsd-dxd-768khz-high-quality-usb-to-i2sdsd-pcb.html

There are many interesting products for sale on that site, like a ES9038pro DAC etc. kit for about $300 when the above USB to I2S and display are included: http://www.diyinhk.com/shop/audio-kits/120-es9038pro-xmos-dsd-dxd-768khz-usb-dac-with-bit-perfect-volume-control-and-spdif-input.html

I have ordered some very low noise voltage regulators from the site, and they came as advertised to me in the US.

I tested wireworld 7, Audioquest Forest, Cinamon, Carbon, Coffee + few cheap cables from ebay.

In my opinion AQ Carbon which I'm currently using, is the best value cable from SQ point of view. My friend bought Coffe set (+USB) and yes it sounds better (bit more smooth, gentle highs) but the price...maybe some day

Up to 1m long will be fine. I didn't notice any difference between 1 & 0.6 cables.
