Firmware download:

Please visit the X5 3rd gen Firmware download page and download the firmware FW1.2.4

In order to bring continuous updates and improvements to the software of the X-series players, we've replaced the FiiO Music app with the new generic market version and also changed the X-series firmware to be more compatible with it. Some old features of the X-series that don't fit with the new design are hence removed. However, we will keep improving the new app and evaluate the possibility of re-adding these features (or improved features) in the future.

The following changes and improvements have beenmade to the FW1.2.3 compared to the FW1.2.2 on X5III:

1. Added support for external M3U playlists;
2. Added "Return to main menu" option in Now Playing menu (tap the "More functions" icon at the upper right corner to select);
3. Added track info display in Now Playing menu (click the album art display area to switch between album art, lyrics and track info display);
4. Added Max volume and Fixed volume setting (can be set in System settings -> Audio settings);
5. Added sorting functions to Playlists menu (tap the "More functions" icon at the upper right corner to select the sorting method);
6. Added cue splitting for DSD tracks;
7. Added cue splitting for multiple tracks within a single cue sheet;
8. Fixed issue where the SD cards could not be selected as save location when using WiFi Song Transfer;
9. Fixed issue where the DSD tracks could not be played properly when output via Bluetooth;
10. Fixed issue where exceptions might occur when playing via DLNA;
11. Fixed issue where the adjustment of some frequency bands in EQ settings could not be remembered;

The following changes and improvements have beenmade to the FW1.2.2 compared to the FW1.2.1 on X5III:

New features for FiiO Music:
1. Brand new interface and changeable themes;
2. Supports FiiO Link;
(The FiiO Music app on your Android phone should be upated to v1.0.7(click here) or above, if you want to use the FiiO Link function;
Here is the tutorial of FiiO Link function: click here)
3. Supports HWA transmission;
4. Supports ISO tracks in DST codec (single DSD tracks in DST codec are currently unsupported)
5. Supports Replay Gain;
6. Supports WiFi song transfer.

Improvements on system:
1. Added gesture support; (It can work better with the new FiiO Music app. If you prefer the old navigation bar control, you can set it in Settings -> Display -> Enable Bottom Navigation bar)

2. Added AirPlay receiver function; (It can be enabled in the pull-down menu or in Settings -> Audio settings.)
If the network connection cuts out automatically during use, you may try to set the 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' option to 'Always' (go to Setting -> WiFi -> tap the more functions icon -> Advanced).
Here is the tutorial about AirPlay function: Click here.

3. Fixed issue where the player would pause automatically if it's connected with a RM1 and when the RM1 entered sleep mode;

Update your player right now and discover more new features!
Note:
1. The support for the old version of FiiO Music app will be discontinued. And this new version will be updated in accordance with the standalone version (available in Google Play).
2. The agreement of cooperation between FiiO and ViPER's Audio has expired, so we're afraid that the new version of FiiO Music will no longer have the embedded ViPER Effect plugin. However, we've been working hard on the dynamic EQ and will try our best to develop more audio effects.
If you have purchased the ViPER Effects and would like to continue using it, you may download the apk file of the old version, copy it to the player, and then install it through ES File Explorer (this will overwrite the new version). If you have any other questions, please kindly contact us (email: support@fiio.com, Facebook: FiiOAudio).
(We've changed the database structure of FiiO music, so the player will transfer data from the old database to the new one during update. And in order to prevent errors, the player will scan the music lists during the transfer and remove the tracks that are not found in the storage. So please remember to insert the SD cards to the correct slot before updating the player, so to ensure that the lists are transferred entirely. )
Download link for the FiiO Music old version (apk): Click here
And finally, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to many of our users who have provided us with valuable feedback and suggestions during beta tests to help us keep improving the software. Thank you and enjoy the music!

I used a USB otg cable earlier in the day to connect it to my chord mojo. It worked fine for a while. Then it locked up the x5 and I had to reset. After resetting, it would no longer charge. I researched that if usb is not disconnected properly, an item could be put into a position where it wouldn't work properly. A fix is to reconnect the USB again and disconnect properly. I reconnected to the chord mojo and pressed allow USB audio player pro. Then upon disconnecting, I found the x5 charged properly. Something you guys should know about. I bought this device for otg use with my portable amps. I hope this situation is rectified soon.

Dear friend,

Thank you for your kind feedback. I will report to our engineers about that. Seems you mentioned the USB audio function as well. We are trying to solve this issue. Not sure when we could make it well, but we will make it well ASAP.

Is there a way to prevent usb charging when I connect my android phone to the x5 3rd gen is DAC mode? It starts charging, quickly draining my phone's battery! :/

how did you do this? I tried switching the x5iii into DAC mode, but I haven't been successful in getting x5iii to be used as a DAC for my android phone? it just doesn't recognize the x5iii as an audio device. I haven't had any trouble with my fiio e17k however. I'd really like to use the DAC amp of the X5iii but with my phone as a source for some music files.

what phone do you have? Maybe that's the issue? I'm using a nexus 6p and a huawei mediapad m3 tablet , both of which I can't get to work with the x5iii.

I have had very few issues with FW version 1.1.6 - and can live with it just as it is until fiio sorts them out.

All Head-Fi users, please note that there are issues being reported on fiio's website for this new version 1.1.7 and holding off may be the better option. They've gone as far as to refer users to a beta version for 1.1.8 (presumably) since they are having issues with 1.1.7. It's all covered in the link below:

http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=42553&extra=page=1

@FiiO I love you guys and will continue to support your products, but in the spirit of visibility and honesty, I think the head-fi community should be aware of the reported issues with this firmware. Keep the products coming and keep smashing the bugs in the software!

what phone do you have? Maybe that's the issue? I'm using a nexus 6p and a huawei mediapad m3 tablet , both of which I can't get to work with the x5iii.

I was able to do it on my Oneplus One running LineageOS Nougat. I just connected directly and used a player that had USB DAC support built in( powerAmp alpha build, hiby music, etc). No workarounds needed in my case. I wish it didn't drain battery from my phone.

@FiiO I love you guys and will continue to support your products, but in the spirit of visibility and honesty, I think the head-fi community should be aware of the reported issues with this firmware. Keep the products coming and keep smashing the bugs in the software!
Dear friend,

Thank you for your kind feedback. As most users are posting their thinking in this thread(https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fii...ut-dsd-dxd-dts-android-dual-card-slot.828402/), we post the FW1.1.7(8.4) in that thread instead. We have changed the link of the FW1.1.7 in this thread to FW1.1.7(8.4) version now.

Best regards

thx. and yes, it's a shame the x5iii is requiring power from your phone in DAC mode - that they don't have an option to turn this off like they do on their e17k portable amp/dac. I suspect fiio assumed that when in DAC mode users would be using a PC not a portable phone, so they designed it to charge up while it's connected as a DAC - this way you unplug and are ready with juice for on the go listening. In the same boat of assumptions is that they designed the fiio to be used as the source AND dac/amp stage and that users had no reason to use a different source while on the go (such as a phone). I get their reasoning here, but again, options are always welcome. I suspect that if enough users request this of Fiio, they'd fix it with a software update (but it's going to take a large base of users to accomplish this IMO). After all of this, I may sell mine and grab an LGv20 for about the same price. And not have to carry my phone and player!

Right. But it won't take much to add an option to disable charging. I too think they won't do it until many users request it.

How is the v20 compared to the X5iii sound wise?
