Well, I've received my F5's. A few things:

- they were sent to Canada c/o USA so I was charged $20 duty. VERY disappointed in this. Fiio, please take care of this issue for all customers that can be affected in the future

- the connectors on both sets of cables, the IEM's are EXCELLENT and very snug. So that is fantastic. I don't foresee there being any issues whatsoever.

- all the glowing reviews about the sound are very accurate. Soundstage is excellent, tuning is very well done. They're warm yet balanced to my ears. Maybe a slight v-shape. Slight roll off of the treble, but musical. Really nice job. Decent circular soundstage for the price - that seems rare. Ovular is more common at this price point, in my experience. Well built as well.

I'm happy with them overall, and the dual cables (balanced cable as well!) and great case as well as the IEM's themselves make for an excellent cost effective package.

I don't think FiiO can do this en-masse and I have a feeling that this is why they usually ask people to buy things from their official sellers, but I always ask companies to declare packages under 15$ when they reach Romania. Most of them are review samples and not products, tax regulations cannot be avoided so easily. What you can do is buy from an authorised reseller who has a product in stock and you won't get any more taxes to pay since those are handled differently at a business level.

Dear friend,

We are sorry that the duty cost you $20. But it may depending on the local custom so it is out of control by us. We have tried to declare a lower price as well. But glad to hear that you enjoy the F5.

Best regards

A quick question for those of you who use Comply tips on your F5s.

I am thinking about giving the Comply tips a try on my F5s. Looking Comly's compatibility chart to figure out what core size I need to purchase, I see that the Fiio EX1 are listed as being compatible with the 200 series tips. Would the F5 use the same core size as the EX1 or do I need a different size?

Without being absolutely sure, I do feel like F5 needs a bigger tip...

Dear friend,

Not sure whether the RC-MMCX1s could meet your need: http://www.fiio.net/en/story/570

We may only able to replace the one with in-line control of the F5 if there are any quality problem.

Best regards

Didn't realize it was the "shortened" cable version. I guess I'll open a support ticket for the current cable then.

The size you need is T400.

@Dobrescu George ,@peter1480: Thanks for the information. Much appreciated.
They do change the sound a bit you will have to try them to see if you like it. They never fall out my ears, I find 'hard in and pointing up' the best but that's just my ears.

I'm currently burning in my F5 for 100hrs. I will then be testing them against the Venture Electronics Duke IEMs. The F5 already has more impact and the fact that you can roll cables is awesome. What I will say about the Duke is that it is TINY and you can actually lie down on a pillow and not really feel it in the ear.
Looking forward your sonic comparison with the Duke s

I've returned the Dukes, but have another pair coming (the pair I had were borrowed, I have my own pair coming). The details on the Duke far exceed what the F5 can produce. The bass is much lighter on the Dukes, but it is textured and layered. The F5's bass is nice, but more "one noted" vs the Duke. The F5 is more "fun" the Duke is more analytical. They have their places in my collection. I would listen to more Hip Hop (which I rarely do), Pop, R&B with the F5... and Jazz, Instrumental and Classical with the Dukes. If that makes sense.
