Looks like bowers Wilkins dropped the price of the p9 to $799 to be more competitive.
I wonder if this is a temporary sale or if this going to be the new price of them.

On B&W's website it's still saying mid 2017 for the lightning cable. I really want to add these headphones to my collection. The reviews seem mixed but I like the P7 wireless sound signature and I have a feeling the P9's will easily top that.

Hi there, just wanted to let you know a small comparison of the P9 with the Oppo PM3.

P9 has a bigger, more open sounding stage, which also has to do with the nice treble. PM3´s has a smaller soundstage and also attenuated treble.
But everything else, I have to admit, the PM3 bests the P9.

First of all: comfort. The comfort on the PM3 is much more pleasing. The P9´s comfort is horrible for that price (nearly double of the price of the PM3´s!) The pads of the P9 are far too stiff. It just doesn´t feel good on the head.
Then the bass. Sure I know there are many of you who like that oooph bass, but it has too much of that (at least for me), so the fat bass has the result that the mids are somewhat congested. The PM3´s have not quantity but quality bass in comparison. And there is not a bit of a congestion of the mids here. So the PM3´s shine in the mids. In comparison to the P9 I felt that the P9 has a very "fun" V shaped signature. Some of you may like this sound for EDM or Hip/Hop. But for those who seek a more neutral sound (closed headphone) I highly recommend the PM3´s. Or the MrSpeakers lineup, if you have the money

Hi - does anyone on this thread own both the P9 and P5 series 2? If so, could you check if the P9 cable fits the P52? I was hoping to upgrade my P52 cable with one of my P7 cable and but the curved mold is too big! The P9 cable looks much closer to the P5, so was thinking it might work. Anyone confirm?

I actually compared the P7W sound (wired) to the P9 in an extensive a/b test and preferred the P7W (for the record I own and use he P7 wired). The P9 definitely had a 'bigger' sound and wider soundstage but was let down by a bass hump that seemed to bleed into the mids - not dissimilar to a V-Moda M-100/Crossfade Wireless signature. I sold my V-Modas for the P7 for the same reason.

I also found the P7W more comfortable than the P9s, which immediately made me question their value at almost three times the price!

Best wait for the P7 Series 2 or whatever else B&W have lined up for us.

Agree, I had both. Now I have the P7.

After the rewire job on my P7's to balanced and acquiring a pair of new P9's for a discount price i thought after a bit of thinking I'd have a go to see if these can be done as well, especially as the improvement on the 7's with my WM1Z in balanced is superb. Not sure if anyone's cracked these open yet I know a few people have mentioned it .... so here goes.
Under the cup are six screws (cable side) you can feel for them with your finger , forget the dents at North South East West as they are magnets, 5 are easy to locate but the sixth is at the very bottom at the cable grip part ( the plastic cable grip) once all out gently prise the cup open with a easy prise tool or the like so not to damage the leather. Once open it's the same insides as the P7's with the L+/- R+/- soldered and marked to the little pcb. Basically remove the female plug and solder a new set of cables to the corresponding wires I'm using a 3mm quad core cable as it fits in the recess nicely. Pictures so far show it open I will post more as I progress through the process ( i actually have to do a bit of work from time to time here so I'll break off for now ).

All mention of the lightning cable seems to have disappeared from the B&W site :unamused:

Wow - you are correct. That is unbelievably cheesy.
I call them every now and then to inquire and keep on being told it is in the final stages of testing.

Me thinks with its sudden disappearance, and the new reduction in price, that perhaps the P9 is not long for this world.

Perhaps a new redesign? Complaints about the bass hump, comments about not much difference between it and the P7 wireless. Obviously just my speculation

If you add the P9 Signature's to the basket to buy it still says the Lightning cable is coming mid 2017. See pic below

Hmmm strange - it used to be on the main product description page... before you make the decision to purchase.
