DACs: USB vs. Coax. vs. Optical

I'm in the process of researching a DAC for my desktop audio system. My PC has all three options open. Aside from optical and coax allowing for more bandwidth (24bit/96khz) what are the factors in deciding what to use? Is there any reason to opt for the USB interface?

Why do people buy expensive DACs?

Before you say anything, yes I used the search. I came up with this link.   http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/517082/what-makes-a-dac-better-than-another   It seems to say expensive DACs still sacrifice something... Now why are people spending $1000+ on DACs when there are supposedly...

    Non-USB DAC for about $250

I hate to make another one of these threads, but every DAC thread is about USB, and I rock with a CD player. So I need a DAC with either optical or coaxial input and stereo RCA output. Size doesn't matter, but I do need to stay right around the $250 mark. I have a pretty good nuetral amp and...

Need a headphone amp for HE-500s…

Hi again.   So I bought the HiFiMan HE-500s. and since this is coming out of a Mac pro with optical out, I needed an amp with at least one optical in.  I bought a NuForce Icon HDP, but I'm not really feeling the love from this amp.   I'm looking for a somewhat powerul headphone amp with...

How To Get Over My Slightly Additive IEM Hobby?

I am 15 and starting to become to much of an audio freak, so as my friends say. I am spending too much and have too much audio equipment. I currently have the Final Audio Design FI-BA-SB & FI-BA-A1, the Meelectronics CC51P, the NuForce 700X, the Apple IEM's (which I hate), the Munitio Teknines...

    Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo

I have a question or two.   Basically I was looking at the Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo + Rx Mk2 Amp and an iBasso D6. I am in need of an amp and a dac because I'm running nice headphones on a fiio E5 or straight out my sources. These are my primary 2 choices.   For the AlgoRhythm Solo...

Trying to decide on a new amp!

Currently I have a Meier Audio Corda 3Move.  I love it but wish it didn't have the curved top to it and that it wasn't as tall.  It doesn't mate in size well with my iPod Classic.  It sounds great and has tons of options(DAC, battery/usb/external power, high/low gain and current mode).  ...

What is 192 kHz upsampling and do I need it?

This will be my first headphone amp and I have a pair of AKG K702 I really like but have been grossly underutilizing unamped. Right now I'm using its stock cable but may very well eventually upgrade to ALO or the like.   I've narrowed my search down to Firestone Audio Fubar IV and they're...

    Firestone Audio SPITFIRE Mk2

Spitfire MKII connects via USB and SPDIF Optical and Coaxial input. The Spitfire DAC is a perfect upgrade for the CD/DVD player and computer system with Audio. Digital inputs are auto selected via Toslink optical(priority) or RCA coaxial.
