This new DAC is a 24bit/192kHz DAC featuring Asynchronous 24bit/192kHz via the USB port as well, a first for Firestone Audio.
Firstly, the 24bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB port which features an XMOS receiver chip is a minimum requirement now and thankfully they have implemented this critical feature. So for the first time, they have produced a DAC that features 24bit/192kHz across all inputs.
Furthermore, the internal converter chip is the Burr Brown PCM1794, and not just one, but two chips because the Tobby is a dual-mono design. Included also is an upsampling feature as seen on the earlier Libby and Rubby products.
The output stage is for the first time offered via un-balanced RCA as well as balanced XLR, inputs offered ar coaxial, optical, AES/EBU and USB, making this a very flexible unit.
Performance is what counts, and on paper the Tobby has the goods, with noise being 119db down, dynamic range around 118db and stereo crosstalk at -119db, all very impressive.
