    Bit Perfect Audio from Linux

Thanks guys... bookmarked. Being just a little more than a casual Linux user I'm one of those guys who, at this point in time, knows just enough to get into trouble. Much appreciated.

    Bit Perfect Audio from Linux

I had to reinstall Linux Mint the other day and I'm having difficulties again figuring out how to get proper, bit perfect output to my DAC. Just as before, the audio sounds like there's some kind of preprocessing going on even though I have ALSA selected as the output device in gmusicbrowser...

Tube rolling with the Audiotailor Jade

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. But for those who still own this amp this is what I've found in terms of the tubes that I've tried in the Audiotailor Jade, the original version. I listen to the Jade fed by a Little Dot DAC_01 using FLAC files through an optical tolink from the computer. A...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

Yes, and although the WIMA caps are a decent sounding cap, they were sounding just a bit grainy to me. Once I swapped the WIMAs for Auricaps & Obbligatos the treble became more controlled and cleaner.   As a side note, I haven't come across an answer as to whether these output caps are in...

First Impressions of the new Beyerdynamic T70p

Don't have any experience with Beyerdynamics. I listen to both Sennheiser hd600 and hd650 and would prefer a sound somewhere in between these two phones. I've always been interested in buying the 600ohm DT880's, but would the T70 be something I might appreciate (being a fan of Sennhiesers)? Thanks.

Little dot mk3 noise with dac

Sometimes it can be the computer itself that's generating noise, or radio frequency interference. Particularly from network signals. I had this problem once. I used to have to disable networking until I got a better NIC card. What type of noise is it and is the noise constant or intermittent...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Quote: Sorry to hear you've got the v1.0 board. Just FYI then here is a photo of Russian 6H6n and the 6H30Pi-EH.     The 6H30Pi looks to have a triple mica construction and the 6H6n just double.

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Now that I understand better how a good power tube improves the presentation, yeah I'm sticking with the 6H30Pi's. Those are some crazy prices on eBay though. Although still a fair chunk of change at $33.95 usd per tube, they are cheaper here. But I'm sure that there are still slightly cheaper...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

I was thinking about why I neglected the 6H30Pi-EH, and in addition to the heat concern it was because I had thought that I didn't like their sound... but I was very wrong there. A power tube can only deliver the signal that the driver tube passes to them. And at the time I was struggling...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Quote: The heat they produce made me nervous is all. And they lay forgotten in a drawer. Plus the 6H6n are a certainly a good tube. Seeing as you have 600ohm Beyers the Electro Harmonix would probably be worth price. I don't recall paying a lot for them bout three years ago though...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

I've never heard any sibilance from the Little Dot MKIII. I do listen with the HD650's, which are pretty tough to hear sibilance with anyway. lol. I simply heard excessive balance towards the treble area, brightness if you will. But no sibilance. Right now I use Russian 6H6n for the power tubes...

Quote: For the type of sound that I was looking for the WE 403B's have turned out to be my favorite purchase so far. I've used TungSol and GE 5654 & 5654W's, including the 5 stars, Mullard M8161, Sylvania & WE 6AK5 & 6AK5W. The 403B's I bought are from the early eighties though. The...

    REVIEW: HLLY DMK-IV DAC / headphone amp / pre-amp)

The volume control only works with the line out and not the DAC out. You'll have to use the line outs to have volume control. Having no volume control for DAC section outputs is, i believe, standard on any DAC out.

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

My board is the same version as your's sonda. And mine has just one cap too. Whereas the boad is printed for two capacitors. I'm pretty sure this is related to the power supply end of things. I was under the impression this difference between the v1.0 and v2.0 boards had to do with the 6H30PI...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

The pot you're looking at is a "stepped attenuator" pot. Besides meaning incrimental volume changes, as opposed to gradual, they're suppose to offer other benefits in sound quality. But someone else will have to give you advice on this as I know not how stepped pots work. I don't think there is...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

I have. I swapped out the 3.3uf and 0.68uf WIMA's for equivalent Auricap's and Obbliggato's respectively. Both caps fit nicely, with thin foam packing, into the side bulges of the case. As well, I swapped the 220uf Nippon Chemicon, which were on the output side, for some equivalent, but higher...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

Your wiring looks correct. On my version of the MKIII there is a five pin socket soldered to the circuit board. The pot then plugs into the surface socket with a five pin harness being wired from the pot. Also different is my wire colors: red, blue, brown, green and black.   But I believe...

Beyerdynamic DT 880 vs Sennheiser HD 650

Further to this thread. I own both the HD600 and HD650. And listen through a tube amp. Although I love the HD650's fullness of instruments and delicately detailed treble, I find the bass a bit excessive and overbearing on some tracks, and to have a slight bass hump on other tracks. But I still...

For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....

I didn't realize the Western Electric site was inactive. I'm more lamenting an opportunity to hear some of the classic NOS tubes. I really do love the easily available RCA 6AS7G, wonderful tube. And I love how they pair so well with the more difficult to get ahold of Sylvania 5751... or should I...

For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

@ evilsword: Neglected to reply to my post. Unfortunately I cannot locate my M8100's. However, the M8161's are a tubier sound than either the TungSol JTL 6AK5 or the GE 5star 6AK5. Where either of those tubes can sound a bit overly detailed and steely (but not grainy), the M8161 doesn't accent...
