It runs lower impedance stuff ok. I'm using mine with 64 ohm ATH-A700's. I do think it would improve with a pair of better, higher impedance cans.

The conductors look to be separately insulated. So... the oil doesn't even touch? Purely cosmetic.

My recommendation is Audio Technica. I went with an A700 after the SR60 and it was a nice change. Easily one of the best deals. More comfortable than any Grado I've tried.
