Media Monkey (free version) works well syncing with my X1, I'm sure it would work with the X5. And it supports a wide variety of file types.

FWIW I sync from a PC to the X1 using the free version of Media Monkey which allows me to define the folder hierarchy to be used on the device. It's slower syncing via USB but to me it's worth it for that kind of control. Usually when I'm syncing I'm swapping out 10 CDs worth of music max so...

I use a folder structure of Genre/Album Artist/Album. This works well for me as I'll usually have an idea what kind of music I feel like listening to and I won't have a ton of artists in any one category.

Gapless with FLAC works perfectly for me, but I don't use cue sheets.

I don't get the obsession with Wolfson DACs. There is a lot more that goes into the quality of audio on a device than what DAC is used. Technically there can be a crappy implementation of a Wolfson DAC just as there can be an excellent implementation of a different DAC.
