Yep, the original cable had gone all stiff, so they've been re-cabled. I'm also making a new headband but struggling a bit with my sewing skills and getting the pleather to look nice and fit right.

A Daiso store opened up nearby (Japanese dollar store) and I went to have a look. I found these bag hanger things that work quite well as headphone hangers hanging from my bookshelf.

Nothing spectacular has happened to me, just regular DIY wounds. I've slipped and burned myself with soldering irons many times and sliced up my fingers and thumbs with a scalpel a number of times too. These things mostly happen when I'm doing something silly, and my brain/conscience tells me...

Thank you everyone. Problem solved, I've gone and purchased a Fluke 87-IV. An 87-V would have been more than enough for me, but they're so popular I've seen them going for not much less than the 87-IV, which is a better specced meter anyway. I've seen some go for cheaper but that's uncalibrated...

Thanks Tangent, I've read some of your articles but I'll have another read and look at the forum links also. I had a look at the U1272A last night and while it does look quite nice, $460 new is a bit of a stretch over what second hand Flukes are available for.

Well, I've made an offer on a 187, kind of accidentally, I wanted to see if I could get a bigger discount and thought it would be automatically rejected, but it wasn't and has gone to the seller. So I guess I'll find out if I've bought a 187 soon :p Oops...

I don't really have room for a bench meter. And I don't really need the extra counts the 87-IV has over the 87-V but thought it wouldn't be a bad thing if it doesn't cost much more. I have watched some videos about the 189/289 and those do look too big for a handheld, but the 87-IV looks like it...

Would an 87-V be preferable over the 87-IV, which I've read is basically the same as the 187? It looks like a better spec'ed meter and only about $50 more than what I've seen 87-Vs go for on eBay recently.
