If you must have the Xonar then why not get headphones that are compatible with the Xonar? Compatible headphones will sound better than a poorly driven HD600. Take a look at AT and Grado and Sony and Jvc/Kenwood for something to sound fabulous with that sound card.

Its kind of strange because Harman/Kardon usually presents a strong dynamic bass in their line of equipment. Then you have all the expertise in all the smaller companies owned by Harman, you would think the top of the line AKG would kick ass.

Because new users buy with their wallets and not with their ears and the 701's are cheaper than the Senns. They then get them, dislike them because they have a strange sound to them and dump them used and then start buying headphones they will actually enjoy.

Yeah, the GB's wont give you more bass than the Short Mullard, they just wont put a veil on the mids as much.

Try a newer driver from the laptop vendor, if that doesn't work then un-install the graphics driver, restart the computer and run windows update and see if Microsoft has a driver that has been approved. The Microsoft drivers are usually older as it takes some time for Microsoft to approve them...

They don't distribute them in the US, therefore they are not on the US website. They are Japanese models that get sold through a few esoteric shops here in the US and thats all.

What kind of graphics chip you got there? Also where did the Graphics driver come from?

The RCA 12BH7 is much warmer than the short Mullard, I am not sure if the EF1 can use the 12BH7 but its worth looking into.

If you want a dac/amp then the Pico or Predator is the way to go. I would say if you want something more neutral then get the Pico and for something warmer then go for the Predator. There is no need for separate units with PK-1's and a notebook. Spend the leftover money on music.
