Researching Vintage CDPs
Just thought I'd post an update. I finally got around to opening the old JVC, and it appears to have (of all things) Yamaha DACs. YM3815 to be specific. I can't find any significant information about these on the net, though. If anyone could tell me anything about them, I'd be appreciative...- Hammerstein

Researching Vintage CDPs
Very interesting stuff Unfortunately, there's no digital out on this one (bleh). Just analog out. One of the reasons it still works is because it probably doesn't have 100 hours on it yet, though. It's my father's, and he got it as a gift but never really used it. Given that it doesn't...- Hammerstein

Researching Vintage CDPs
Hi all, This is probably an esoteric question, but does anyone know how to get more information about vintage CDPs that lack a manual? I ask, because my family has an old JVC XL-V311 (1989, I believe) sitting around, and I'm trying to determine what to do with it. Lacking a really good...- Hammerstein

Can a new CPU/Motherboard Improve Image and Sound Quality?
I don't think that the motherboard and CPU should have significant effect on sound or video quality. With regards to sound quality, it might be the case that a new motherboard and CPU affect the EMI signature of the system for the better, but I find that hard to believe that it would be that...- Hammerstein

Black Friday Dilemma! Klispch Quintet III
I was once told that the RSW-10 (now discontinued) was also a nice Klipsch Sub for the older model Quintets. But, anyways, it was a Klipsch Reference sub, so it should have better build quality and better sound. -
DAC for a Gilmore Lite -> K271S and SR-225
Hello all, I've been a lurker/semi-poster here for a while now, though I hadn't really been following audio equipment for the last few months. The release of the K701 got my attention again! Now I'm starting to get back into things. I picked up a Grado SR-225, because I've always wanted to...- Hammerstein

Laptop Hum! Make it stop!!!
Try replacing the AC adapter brick and line, because it might be that. In my case, I find that mine makes an annoying hum sometimes (and it probably means its failing, too!). -
Using Klipsch Promedia 2.1's as a temporary Headphone amp
The PM 2.1 headphone out is a far cry from anything amazing, but admittedly it is better than nothing and, if you don't mind how your SR225s or SA5000s sound out of it, you could possibly get away with using it for a while. It is a bit noisy IIRC (though better than, say, the Monsoon Planar...- Hammerstein

recommendations for female music?
Actually, for Loreena McKennitt I prefer Live in Paris and Toronto to Book of Secrets in the studio. But really good recommendation there. I also second Tori- Hammerstein

Emu 1212m is driving me insane!
Also, beyond latency, if you're running that many drives, I can see you pretty much saturating the entire PCI bus in short order, which could cause issues, too.- Hammerstein

Radiohead: help me discover a "quality" recording
Come to think of it, there's something that bothers me about Pyramid Song, too. It has some sort of weird extra echo that I suspect belongs to the song, but almost gives it a muddiness to my ears. But I still thing it's great.- Hammerstein

I don't know a thing about this stuff...
Personally, I don't find the 497s leak too badly, and likely not enough to bother anyone as long as you keep the volume reasonable, which, if you're roommate is looking for quiet, should work That's what I bought to college with me originally...still use them, but this evil website...- Hammerstein

noob got a K271S - should he expect decent bass levels out of a cmoy?
I'm not sure that I'd ever expect heavy bass with a kick in the 271s. I'd expect bass that slips into the music and is a bit 'light', comparably.- Hammerstein

liteon cd-rw problem...please help.....
It should have nothing to do with your computer's age. Theoretically, a 52X drive could work on a 486 as long as the computer had a spare IDE channel. I would check your connections and also try to update your chipset drivers, notably your IDE ones. It's a long shot, though. If not, perhaps...- Hammerstein

headphone sightings?
Oddest thing I see is someone wearing one of the Bose phones while walking between classes. At home or in the dorm, they'd look fine, but it's like having mini-cups on each ear when you're walking I have the most expensive stuff that I know of here. Mostly streetstyles, etc, like usual. Looking for first step down upgrade path
Just to clarify, the Gilmore Lite is portable, just totable. Requires a wall wart power suply by default. Also, what kind of music do you listen to and do you enjoy the overall Grado sound and its slight aggressiveness? If so, a SR225 might be a better service.- Hammerstein

Cheapest Price for M Audiophile USB?
Given a choice, I would probably dive for the Newegg.com one at $169, IIRC. Newegg is incredibly reliable as a reseller, which makes it worth the extra bucks, IMO, over a bad seller. Look here - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...=BROWSE&depa=0- Hammerstein
