I've read that the HD650's need some amping to even work right, which is why I was looking into amps. I prefer a slightly colored tone that takes off the sharp edge of trouble, hence the HD650 choice; if I preferred a more neutral tone, I'd probably just stick to my K550s

Is the AKG 550 better than the HD 650?

Is it worth waiting till Cybermonday to try getting one of these for ~$400?   By the way has anyone really compared the K550's with the 650s? I really liked the 558's they had in Best Buy but the muddy detailing ruined it for me.

As the title says, I have an audio-gd Sparrow that I haven't used in almost a year and a half, admittedly, because ear problems from my right ear had kept me from enjoying my music. My W1000X has been left in it's box and is in storage somewhere, but largely I've had only ~100 hours or so on...

Exciting news: Was just on the site and chatting with a person about the commit not being able to be matched and the person said they talked to Beyer and were able to drop down the number needed to 30! Holy crap that's enough to make this work, hurry up and get on it people, I want this to happen!! 

The massdrop for the Beyerdynamics are just about to end, with a day and a half remaining. It looks like the price won't reach 230, but at 275 it's still a steal so if you're going to get the DT990 Premiums anytime soon, now's your last chance!

Yup, sounds like you like the Sennheiser house sound, like zmd said. But who knows? For all you know, you might like the K701 or the 325i's and the only way to really tell is to audition each one. Go try em out if you can find a hi-fi shop in your area.

Yes it did, but no, it didn't. Whoa that was confusing haha. My Sparrow has arrived! but the highs turned even more sibilant than before and the bass might've become too punchy if such a thing is possible. My initial impressions can be read here...
