Has anyone compared this to the new RME Adi2 Dac? I don't need that headamp but its not bad to have, unless Chord SQ is superior.

I don't want to ruin the party, but shouldn't the volume on the source be 100%? If you want every bit of music to go to the amplifier, you should only use amplifier volume, maybe you wont hear any difference either, but in theory this is the audiophile way..

Those are way overpriced, none of them is worth that ammount, and no, sound cards are not graphic cards, a ''vintage'' Lynx or RME will be better than any Asus or Creative modern card.. if you do gaming just get a cheap Creative card, while for music an external DAC would be better.

Try to keep posts shorter,  How did you connect phone to  DAC? usb or spidf out? or you are using android DAC, which generally speaking are crap, considering they have no fixed line out but only headphone out.. W 7 sound better than xp, and with asio it should sound the same, unless your card...

Open up, and check for any bulged capacitor, EMU1820M had a lot of cheap caps dying after some time, I'm not sure about the USB because it doesn't get very hot, but it may be worth the effort..

What's the point? There are a lot high resolution downloads in 192Khz, I don't care if they are better or not  than 96Khz, I can only buy them in 192khz so why should I downsample?

The only soundcard I know to support  192Khz over coaxial spidf is the Esi Juli, or the Audiotrak prodigy over the native asio driver, (honestly I'm not so sure for the Audiotrak) most of the other cards and motherboards,  just downsample even on wasapi out, if your Dac has sample rate monitor...

The Elite is an exceptional card, at the same level or better than the EMU cards, it has not a colorful shields and other ******** marketing tricks, but it should sound even better than modern creative cards, so, yes that's a very good deal

You can try Winamp+ asio plugin, and then game,  if you play 96Khz files in winamp/asio, then when gaming, you should hear only one or no sound, because games are usually 48Khz, if you play 44.1 or 48Khz files in winamp/asio and game, its a possibility that you can hear both..

Wasapi it should be bit perfect, but for that it should be supported by the audio device,  Creative xfi cards don't support wasapi bit perfect, and its pretty easy to check that, because they change the master clock in Audio Creation Mode according to the audio file played, when using asio...

If you want to check that wasapi is doing its magic, you need some Dts or Ac3 wav  files, you can download from here, and a dolby/dts receiver, then configure Foobar to play through wasapi spidf, Volume 100%, disable every DSP in foobar and be sure that no dts plugins are installed, connect...

It can be.., but knowing Creative cards, they are bit perfect only when using native Asio driver(NOT asio4All), so they dumped 88.2, 176.4, and just resample to 192Khz because they need the logo 192Khz /24bit, not that it makes any big difference in SQ, but just saying that the 10 years old EMU...
