Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
Thanks. Yeah I'm leaning towards either 65t or waiting for the Active (IP56 vs IP55 water resistance) although not much difference probably. Might also wait for Qualcomm's QCC5100, probably around mid this year. Looks like it will enable competitors to catch up with Apple's W1 chip which seems...- RedSky0

Woops, poor phrasing! Meant my phone. The range to my phone is pretty reasonable indoors, but in the city I often have to hold it in my hand to get a clear signal.- RedSky0

Anyone come across an aliexpress model that doesn't cut out? My QCY Q29 Pros would be perfectly suitable for podcasts if they didn't cut out in the city when I put my phone* in my pocket.- RedSky0

Large lawsuit payout from LG, only if you signed up to the class action though: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/1/31/16957332/lg-bootloop-lawsuit-settlement-g4-v10-v20-nexus-5x-g5- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I found the Axon 7 much warmer / fun in tone vs. the V20, kept the former. If you have very specific preferences you would probably be best to EQ with Viper / ARISE as the odds of stumbling on a smartphone chip that's perfectly tuned to your preference are low.- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
Crazy price for the audiophile DAC. Given how cheap the full Axon 7 has gotten though, I would just get that if it's within the price range. Going by the previous releases of ZTE Axon (Oct '15) to Axon 7 (Jun '16) and the recent price drops, it makes me wonder if an Axon 8 is on the horizon...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I can only say I clearly preferred Axon 7 over the V20. Maybe its a personal preference of a more V shaped sound signature, but that plus the better OLED screen was enough to convince me to keep the Axon and sell the V20.- RedSky0

Interesting. You don't have the speakphone on call by default bug? I thought this was something common with all Lineage OS based ROMs ... I'm running Resurrection Remix (which is based on Lineage AFAIK). I don't believe the V20 has any confirmed bootloop issues. It was named in a lawsuit...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I'm happy with the sound and the hardware, screen is great, battery holds up pretty well given screen and specs. There's various software issues whether you go stock (aggressive power saving that kills some background apps) or Lineage OS (calls answered as speakerphone by default, have to double...- RedSky0

DAC works with PowerAmp Alpha* (also some other players), google it you will see how to do it. I never used the stock player. Can't comment on the Q1. Assume if you bought it you can A/B test and tell us the result :) I never felt the need to use Dolby, from what I remember it made the...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I'm really happy with the sound. Also owned the V20 briefly and while also detailed, I felt the sound was too clinical vs. the somewhat more V-shaped Axon 7 that I prefer. Both stock and custom ROMs for the Axon 7 have some annoying quirks but SQ-wise, I couldn't be happier. Price is also...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
Yeah, but the only one that seems to emphasise it as an amp/dac rather than just an adapter is the FiiO one (and Audeze, but it's proprietary). Hopefully we will see more competitors.- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I think the FiiO i1 is closest to what I was thinking. As more smartphone makers ditch the jack, this may be the way things are trending. This may to some extent be viewed as a plus. Currently the range of smartphones with audiophile chips is small and narrowing. If we instead see a range of...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
This may be a bit off-topic, but now with so many smartphones cutting headphone jacks, are there any cable integrated amp/DACs being developed? The only one I can find is the Audeze Cipher, but that seems proprietary to specific headphones: https://www.audeze.com/lightning-cable-technology...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
@wolfxomg Agreed, stock OS has several annoyances but with custom ROM it's been almost flawless. The issue I still have with mine is it will default to speaker on calls, and I have to tap on/off to go back to normal phone calls, however I've been told that this has now been fixed so I just...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
After various issues with Axon 7 related to stock OS, I tried the V20. Personally I prefer the more v-shaped Axon 7's sound signature. The Axon's OLED screen is also considerably better than the LG's LCD (full blacks on OLED when using it at night are hard to give up), and I was surprised how...- RedSky0

I've come to the conclusion for my ears, dual-flange silicone is the undisputed champ. They can be inserted quickly and easily, are durable and provide a strong seal. Been using then for years before with the TF10s. Triple-flange create too tight of a fit / too high pressure for me to the...- RedSky0

Best Smartphone for audiophile
Just wanted to follow up on a previous post to say that the Axon 7 issues I had before (restarts / audio skipping) seem to have been caused by issues with root / packages through TWRP and that after reverting to stock they have gone away. Beyond that there are some relatively minor...- RedSky0
